I really enjoyed the first book and I was hoping this book would flesh out the characters a bit more. Instead, it was like moving from one fight scene to another. This book could have used more details everywhere. I would have liked to have seen a longer book with more explanations for what and why things were happening. Here's a quick example:
Author introduces that Monty is undergoing a shift. Ok, but he never really explains what this is. We don't know how Monty's feeling about this since it's told from Strong's point of view and he doesn't ask or speculate. We find out later Monty's power is increasing. Again, why and how? It's just very random. Then, he needs this focus to help out which is basically some different sticks bundled together to make a staff. Purpose? Not sure, but it's not important because Monty tosses it away soon after.
This story felt very much that the author took some ideas, slapped them together, and said, "Boom! Done!" I'll probably give Mr. Sanchez another try since I did like the first book better than this one.
