Top critical review
Very clearly a first book, needed editing. Sandra's story is not for the fainthearted.

Cons: This book needed a stronger editor's hand. The author's descriptive writing veers off into florid quite regularly, at times not making any sense, like teenager writing poetry. I agree with other reviewers, the author made assumptions about the psychological reasons behind other's behavior (Sandra's and the hoarders) through the lens of her own trauma, unreliable and honestly not relevant to this story. Pro's: Sandra's experience as a trans woman, and the hardships she faced on that front were eye opening and so sad. The picture of her standing in that brothel's tin doorway will stay with me for a long time. No wonder trans people commit suicide even after achieving their goal of gender reassignment. This was traumatic enough without even considering her horribly abusive childhood. It's amazing Sandra is still standing, much less giving back to others. I wonder if the misleading title was in an effort to get readers to read a trans story they might not otherwise have picked up? It's still worth reading, even despite its flaws.
