Julie N.
5.0 out of 5 starsNo Complaints
Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2019
This is a flashback book to the time before Joe cheated. Before Julie was born. This can be a little disorienting at first, but once you get into the book it does not take long to adjust. IF I had one complaint it might be to have known this was coming so that I could go back and reread the 9th through the 11th books. However, this seems to slip seamlessly between the old stories with little mention or overlap into the previous books.
As the book begins Lindsay and Joe are accompanying a friend, Anna, in to testify against a "red-faced hog" monster (ya gotta love that), but that is where the flashback begins. In the flashback Joe meets Anna for the first time as she sits by the side of the road disheveled and sobbing. She had just seen a man who had brutalized her several years before and had tried to chase him down on her bike until she had crashed. Lindsay is hot on the trail of three missing teachers from a local high end private school. To her surprise, not so much ours, this chase finds her following the trail into the seedier side of town searching for her next serial murderer.

There are probably some things they could have done better, but really this book is much better than the last few and I was very pleased to have ordered it early. It was an easy way to get Lindsay and Joe back on common ground without having to rehash all of the troubles from the last two books and the affairs, so that was a really nice relief.

UPDATE:
On further reflection I probably should mention that this book does contain some graphic scenes of a sexual and abusive nature. However, as a survivor of sexual assault it did not cause me any distress. If that is something that may affect you in a negative way you may want to use caution in selecting this book.
Contains some inappropriate language (yes several F-bombs). [Note to Ms. Paetro: They are not necessary. The preview for the next book is already full of f-bombs, but I read this series because it did not have them.]

1.0 out of 5 starsTime to end it
Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2019
Very sad to say was soo disappointed in No 18 which we have waited a year for. Worse than No 17 which was pretty bad. Where is Lindsay and Joes little girl? How could she just be ignored after playing such a huge roll in previous books??!! There was not one surprise or curve ball in the entire book. Extremely predictable as was the previous book. Will not be waiting anxiously for the next boring installment of the Women’s Murder Club. The series is over for me.

I enjoyed the book but just have 2 questions for Mr Patterson. Where was Joe and lindsay beloved daughter and where was Brody Zuki husband? I have read every on of the series and was a bit irritated that there was no mention of the above.

I would have given it 5 stars if the author had not completely left out Lindsey and Joe's child. The dog was there, but not one mention of the baby they had. When you write a series like this you can't undo the baby you previously wrote about.

I always love James Patterson books, especially the woman murder club,I was a lil confused when some characters were not mentioned etc. Joe and Lindsey daughter. Also after the prologue it says 5 years ago.does that mean 5 years from our current time to make book a flashback,or is the 5 years already in the future making book in current time,if so..... Where is there daughter??? I have never written a review before that is questionable, don't leave readers hanging wondering what's going on please ,try to explain .I love your twists and turns and plot of story,Patterson's great storyteller prob best of this time, keep writing.

I wasn’t sure I would like this book after reading some of the reviews. I actually thought it was much better than the last Murder Club book which was so disappointing. I realized that this was a “back in time” story, therefore there was no Julie or Lt. Brady. I liked the way Joe & Lindsay’s cases came together & how they worked together. My only complaint would be is that I think the ending came so fast, and wanting to know what was life like for Anna after the “trial”.

4.0 out of 5 stars Should come with an "R" rating

I'm a big fan of James Patterson, particularly this series & Michael Bennett, but found the rapes & assaults of women very disturbing. Much has been written about atrocities against people in the countries mentioned, yet I was repulsed & found myself reading the book on a "stop & go" basis - the level of violence, although real, was appalling & graphic. Just my opinion, but I think some others will feel the same way. One nagging thought: while it was explained that the plot took place 5 years prior, I still found myself confused & missing Joe & Lindsay's daughter & just a adding reference to her anemia at the end of the book. I've already pre-order the "19th" book & am looking forward to it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as earlier books in the series.

A 3.5 would be closer to the correct score. I have been following this series since the beginning. This book, and the last one, have lost the sense of close companionship among the women that characterized the earlier books and kept me reading them. Some of the scenes with the Serbian woman who had been brutalized did not ring true. The ending was also less than satisfying. I expected more from James Patterson and Maxine Paetro. That said, the unfolding plot did hold my rapt attention.

I enjoy the women’s murder club series by James Patterson. As a working mom with young kiddos, I love how the chapters are short. I am the type of person that needs to end at a chapter and these books make it easy for me.

This book was okay. I have been reading this series since it came out and I’m a bit disappointed. It’s really weird how they never mentioned Lindsay’s daughter Julie through out the entire book. There was no story line for her. Where was she?

I have always been a James Patterson fan; however, in the last two Women's Murder Club books, I feel that he builds the plot to a certain point and then ends the book very quickly. The 18th Abduction deals with Lindsay Boxer's life five years prior, so the rest of the Murder Club women are not a big part of this book. Not the Patterson quality of old!

4.0 out of 5 stars Didn't follow the flow of other books in series

Disappointed this book detoured from the storyline. This one went back in time and was mostly about Joe and not really the women. Seemed like this could have been a story that was written that could be put out at anytime just to publish. Didn't have the breaks in the story like all the others either...Chapter 1,2,3 or Part 1, 2, 3, etc...just a normal novel read through.
