The book was o.k. But far too many typo errors, and historical mistakes too. Thamesmead was only built in 1960's,and on the South bank of Thames . The oil tanks were at Thameshaven on the north bank. The reason for Hitler ordering bombing of London was because Churchill had ordered a raid on Berlin after bombs were dropped on the Barbican in London on 25/26 th August in error by Luftwaffe. Surprised the author did not know this if he saw the film Battle of Britain.
As a representative of a company that strongly supports the 2nd Amendment, I met Stephen Challis at his Harmony Hollow Firearms Training School in the foothills of Eastern Kentucky. Because Stephen and I have common interests in guns, the early history of Kentucky, and the Battle of Britain, I immediately purchased his book Fragile Hero. Although the book is over 450 pages, it is a quick but fascinating read. England and the rest of the free world still owe a tremendous debt to the pilots of the Royal Air Force as they fought against the German Air Force which outnumbered them 4 to 1. I agree with Churchill that the Battle of Britain during WW II ranks on the same level of importance as the defeat of the Spanish Armanda in 1588. This work of historical fiction takes the reader directly into the greatest air battle of WW II. It accurately portrays just how close to defeat the Royal Air Force came. My thanks to the author for writing this book to remind us of the sacrifices and the heroism of the British Pilots who met and defeated the German Luftwaffe in the skies above England.
