WAIT UNTIL DARK by Kat Martin (A Maximum Security Prequel Novella)

First off I want to say that this "book" is way overpriced and not worth the $2.99 I paid for it. Maybe if it had been a dollar I wouldn't be so upset right now about wasting my money on a story that had little depth, superficial characters, and only took me about an hour and a half to complete...
The story itself was okay but in no way realistic. I found myself rolling my eyes so many times while reading this I'm lucky I didn't become cross-eyed. I realize this is a romance but I find it hard to believe that a woman who was found next to a dead man, suspected of murdering him, and just released from jail would constantly be thinking about having sex with the PI she hired to investigate the crime. I'm pretty sure I'd be so scared that hopping into bed with a stranger (albeit a really hot stranger) would be the very last thing on my mind.
As for April and Jonah they were both likable but also forgettable. In fact I just finished this story yesterday and I already had to look up their names since I forgot them. There's one short sex scene that I don't think was needed either. And while I do like some steam in my stories, that's not usually the case with novellas since I feel it takes away from the plot and character development which are already short changed due to the limited page count.
On a positive note at least the story wasn't boring and although I suspected the real killer was one of three people, there was a little twist to the puzzle that I didn't see coming. For a well known and longtime author such as Kat Martin though I really expected more. It's been a while since I've read one of her stories and that was a historical romance, but I remembered her writing as being much better than this.
I specifically purchased this novella because I recently bought Ms. Martin's full length novel THE CONSPIRACY and I saw this was a prequel to that book. After finishing this story though I'm honestly not that excited about reading it anymore. Since I paid good money for it I likely will at some point, but I'm in no real rush now.
