This is a German police procedural, very well written. The characters are relatable. The story is believable. This book showed up on my “Kindle Unlimited” suggestions. I didn’t realize until a few pages in that this was a series. I read this book anyway and it wasn’t a problem following along, though I will read the series in order now. It is most refreshing that there is a minimum of violence, no gross descriptions, and police characters that aren’t deeply flawed. It’s almost like there are 2 stories unfolding, one many decades ago, and one in the present. Eventually they merge. It’s a very good read, thank you!
I spent most of my time in the northeastern part of Germany; the culture is much different than in southern Germany. The author reflects the mentality well. I identify well with the Zurückhaltung of the culture. The story recreates a believable story, one that invites a reader to a very beautiful part of Germany.
