VINE VOICE
4.0 out of 5 starsA welcome break from the emotional bog left us by "Infinity War"
Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2018
My headline is not original, as many reviewers have noted that this next MCU entry is a nice repose (riposa) from the heavy weight we all felt after the last Avengers movie. But, if it were just that, it would feel like a the cinematic equivalent of a pallete cleanser - that is, the in-between food that gets us ready for the next major course in the meal. Ant Man and the Wasp is anything but. Featuring an even more developed main character, ably played by Paul Rudd, and a typically great surrounding cast, this second Ant-Man feature develops its own Mini-MCU by having the eponymous micro hero involved in a significant quest of his own, to save the life of his mentor's wife, and love-interest's Mother. No spoilers here, but getting to see the lovely Michelle Pfieffer in anything these days is a treat, in and of itself. As much as she and Michael Douglas have aged, the film places them in age-appropriate settings while not taking for granted their acting skills or considerable visual appeal. Great stuff, all around, highlighted by the inimitable Michael Pena, who I just love. Even after the disastrous, "CHIPs". And that is saying something.

3.0 out of 5 starsA solid & funny addition to the Marvel flicks
Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2018
Like: The family and I were laughing out loud at several parts. It's very tongue in cheek and doesn't take itself too seriously. Like how they tied what's going on in this movie with what's going on in the rest of the Marvel extended universe. And then you've got Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfiefer . . . two awesome actors doing what they do. I also really liked the Ghost character. I enjoyed that she was a deep and interesting character.

Dislike: OK, I got it that the ants are a big part of the movie . . . but really, do we have to have the ant playing the drum set, and sitting on the couch watching TV? And you mean to tell me that the ants are smart enough to build the quantum realm tunnel reactor thingy ?!? No fingers / thumbs, etc. and they're screwing in parts and such. I can sort of suspend my disbelief for a bit with the whole shrinking and enlarging thing . . . but the ants were just too much.

And why does the lead FBI character have to be such an ignorant baffoon? Again, just silly and pointless.

3.0 out of 5 stars MORE OF THE SAME + EVEN MORE OF THE SAME

This movie is a perfect example of how Hollywood makes sequels. The slogan seems to be "If they liked one hour of non stop chase and shooting action they'll love 2 hours of it in the sequel" I was getting an itchy FF finger through a lot of this movie. I watched the first Ant Man movie a few days before this one and I thought the first one was a lot better. There's a few laughs in Ant Man 2 but the humer to me seemed more like the three stooges type without the face slapping. I'd like to know how they made Michael Douglas look, sound, and act like he did when he was decades younger.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as the first

Is this a comedy or what? The action and effects are fine, but the overall story is somewhat predictable. Also predictable is the final scene amid the credits that sets up the premise for the next installment of the Wasp and his buddies. The first Wasp movie offered a fresh super-hero story about an unlikely hero with no super powers or special abilities, but instead (like Iron Man) a special suit that could give anyone special abilities. And (like Iron Man) it might be more interesting if each Wasp movie featured a different person wearing the suit, just as The Phantom is "immortal" because when one grow too old or dies a new and secret Phantom appears in the same suit. The most annoying aspect of this Wasp movie is that the whole story seems to be driven by the poor choices of the characters rather than by the opposition of an anti-hero or archenemy.

Movie was good but not memoriable. Expected a bigger bang second time around. Plot holes main one being Scott dumbed down and Hope made a genius in quantum theory. It's actually becoming annoying that Scott cannot remember ants with wings are female. The Ghost phase shifting fight was lackluster, the 90's-2000's did better with Matrix and X-men 2. Use of Giant man was unnecessary. The villain Goggins could easily be defeated without tech and good punch in the face which the XCons proved. The mini lab should not have been found so easily by everybody. The worker ants which were the size of dogs looked animated and fake. Unfortunately, it will only look worse in 4k. The CG department heads must consider 4K before final approval. The movie score was way off, who knew it was so important. Bad music is distracting which it was. Loved the families' dynamic, happy ending even for Ghost. We all need someone. The foretelling of Scott's daughter as a superhero was adorable. Will I see a number three? Of course Disney will correct their mistakes and the cast is stellar. They made the best with what they had.

Laughed a few times which is why it got 3 stars. It has many plot holes which could have been easily avoided had they been the least bit concerned with making a decent movie rather than pumping out another marvel universe blockbuster.

It's Marvel, so as a fan, you are almost required to watch.
IMO-
Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Peña were all pretty entertaining.
Michelle Pfieffer is lovely to look at.
Michael Douglas' acting was painful
Storyline was predictable, and the direction seemed to be dictated by the film's special effects, and it's getting old.
Overall, it's worth about $3.99 of your money to watch, wouldn't spend a penny more.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Soft and Mushy Plot
Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2018

A film revolving around the notion of scalable humans could be fascinating only if the plot wasn't so soft and mushy. Obviously Ant-man and the Wasp was made with children in mind and not adults. Three stars for action sequences and the graphics, and zero stars for a truly lame story. If my kids were still eight years old, I would let them watch this film so as to have a little quite time for myself and not suffer their turning into zombies after.

3.0 out of 5 stars I've not seen a bad Marvel movie in this last run, but

This is an enjoyable enough movie. Even the worst of the current run of Marvel Movies (from Thor on) have been enjoyable. I haven't felt like I've wasted time or money on any of them. That being said, this is one of the weaker ones. I almost feel like Marvel was focused on Infinity War and it's sequel and maybe this one was just pushed along to fill in information needed for the Endgame movie. But I still recommend it-- it's fun. Not stellar, but fun. Baba Yaga!

I liked the movie, fun and entertaining. I seriously can't get over 1 fact that destroys this movie at face value for me and something that I feel like is completely missed by the producers. So the mom, lived in lala quantum magic land for 20 years and survived with no food, water, shelter... come the freak on.
