Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
(Full disclosure: I am lucky enough to know Connie personally, through her work in Internet Marketing. But I read a lot, in a wide range of genres, and my acquaintance with her does not affect my assessment of this effort.) The title of my review derives from my view of the book as achieving at least three things: it is informative, inspirational, and entertaining. I am not a sports fan at all, but even my 67 year old memory was jogged and touched by the stories here, especially by the authors "of a certain age" recalling their first, formative encounters with the game. For me, it was the Portland Beavers (highlighted in one of the entries here), whose stadium was across the street from our apartment, and fuzzy black and white Saturday TV broadcasts of the New York Yankees as called by Peewee Reese and Dizzy Dean. I learned a lot about the game, and was inspired by its influence on the lives of the authors presented here, both young and old. Such sweet, golden memories, burnished by time and love! The reason for 4 stars? I wished for more of a "women's touch" beyond that of Connie herself. But that's just a pop fly as against the legion of grand slams....! Cheers, fans!
This book is a great summer read! I was privileged to contribute a story, and that's not the only reason I think it's a great book. It's a quintessential compilation of people's love for the sport of baseball. I learned my love of baseball from my mom who was an ardent Red Sox fan! You can't go wrong with this book...get a comfy seat, a cool drink and enjoy!
Connie was kind enough to include one of my short stories for this collection, but I enjoyed all the stories here. Rich with history and personal experiences of the game, this is a great read for baseball fans young and old.
