Is That All There Is?
Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2020
I really, really wanted to like this book, particularly since I seem to have a lot of spare time during this pandemic, but for me the title alluding to the genre was misleading (to get buyers?). The book is well written, here and there are allusions to "something different" and thoughts thrown in about water witches, alien life forms, but it is just a thread perhaps to bind a story about a particular time (WWII and immediately following), the struggles and survival of a young woman with the help of her aunt. A story mostly about the biases, prejudices; changing social mores of the times. Not a bad book, but one based on what I thought I was buying and the overview, a disappointment and I cannot recommend it. I somehow felt cheated and found myself asking, '...is that all there is...' Perhaps change the title and list it in a different more accurate genre.
