CAN'T STAND THE RAIN is a standalone read with a HEA. There are some sexy scenes if that is an issue for you. This one also deals with bipolar illness as a background for the story. I have never dealt with mental illness on a personal level but I do know that there is a lot out there that is not getting treated.
Sean is a hotshot firefighter that has had to leave his position and return to Mississippi to be closer to his family. His mother has been ill and he feels the need to be closer to her. So he is working for the forestry division and does volunteer firefighting for the small town of Wishful. he is single but he has his eye on Delaney.
Delaney is a young woman that has been through some very tragic events in the last two years. She discovered her boyfriend cheating on her. She didn't take it well and decided to harass him and the new girl friend Gina. He had a great deck that he just loved so she decided to paint it with a little of foul language. finishing up she threw the paint rags in the trash cans under the deck. The combusted and set the deck on fire. She was arrested and was evaluated and discovered she was bipolar. So she got the help she needed, got on medication and is trying to turn her life around. The sweet little town of Wishful turned a bit small town judgemental and decided to make her life as miserable as possible. She kept a very low profile and lived with her Aunt Val. The aunt sort of saved her life when she had no one to stand up for her and no place to go. She was very indebted to this woman.
Sean finally asks her out after making friends for a few months. He knew something had hurt her in the past and she was a very shy person so he wants to move slowly so that he doesn't scare her off. They are just starting to date when her life turns upside down again. Things around town are happening and she is the first one everyone jumps to blame for the events. This is the mystery part, who in town is out to get her? The love story between Delaney and Sean is a very touching one. I really liked the story and definitely recommend it. It was a bit different from the other books I have read about this delightful little town. It was good though. The thing that happens to Gina just was the cherry on top!! I laughed myself silly. Karma is a witch!!
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/25/2020
