5.0 out of 5 starsThis story is definitely one of the most morbid books of the Joe Pickett series but the story is certainly heartwarming at times. If you love ongoing excursions of death dealing activities, then you will be completely satisfied. Joe and Nate were at their very best!

Never read a Pickett book that wasn't five stars worthy, and this one is definitely worth five and more, if they were available. Joe is not the normal easy going Game Warden he normally portrays, as he and Nate are more in the justice mode. You will find yourselves wondering when the morbid stories will cease and tell retaliation will begin. Don't give up yet, as the fun will soon begin!
There are many different aspects to Wolf Pack than most of the Pickett series contain, but the storylines, and the bad characters, are just as devious as all other stories have been. I have to admit some stories go far beyond Joe's normal restraints, but hang in there and you will enjoy each and every exciting episode as they begin to fall in place.
Without hesitation, I definitely recommend this exciting masterpiece by the mastermind.behind the Joe Pickett series, Mr. C. J. Box. He certainly has had the uncanny ability to release nineteen exciting masterful performances of this series, most all of them were five star masterpieces! Fortunately I have had the opportunity to read each and every one of them in order. I anxiously await the next exciting adventure, although I know it will be at least a year before it will arrive! If you don't buy this outstanding story, the loss will definitely be yours!😤

Much of the storyline was illogical, with inaccurate statistics that were used to justify FBI activities. The body count, and the level of mayhem made this book extremely distasteful.

This book lacks a tight story. Moreover, it is technically flawed.

I do not know who advised the author on GPS devices and addresses (either house or postal), but the information in the book is importantly flawed and untrue. While the U.S government through the Air Force does control the infrastructure of GPS, it does not control the map databases used in GPS devices. The presence or absence of an address on a GPS unit has more to do with the U.S. Postal. service knowing that a valid postal address exists and the navigation system having an updated map that shows the true extent and valid name of the street/road/path along which that address may occur. The interaction between these factors causes many people using GPS devices to unsuccessfully navigate to their destination. Or, in the case in the book - the house was not on the map because the address did not exist in the mapped database for a variety of reasons, but not because the military or government decided it must not be public knowledge.

After reading the numerous rave reviews of the Joe Pickett novels, I may give the series another chance but this one failed to engage me after the female warden so likeable in the first chapter faded into the background until she was killed in the very end. Also, since when do wolf packs, real wolf packs, hunt down and tear apart lawless women? As a master Maine guide, I found this a bit much. The story line was predictable but I'll try another one and see if the characters reel me in.

Box’s writing style is beyond compare.....the characters come alive and the plot is always very suspenseful. However this latest book makes me feel cheated given it was so short. Not what I’d come to expect from C. J. Box!

The wholesale slaughter of characters that occurs is totally absurd. I like the concept of the game warden and his strange friend that pops up in bad situations but really? This one was over the top nonsense.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too gruesome

I've read all the Joe Pickett books and look forward to the next one coming out. Wolf Pack, however, was too gruesome. I enjoy his character development as well as the beautiful setting, but it seems like he thinks he needs to top himself with a violent body count. Imagine I'll still try the next one, but with not quite as much anticipation.

this book was interesting, but still a little too sappy---certainly not cowboy-like

too many of these writers get complacent after doing well

Just too bloody for my taste. Too bad, as I like the series overall. Didn't finish the book.

Same story, I have read every book in the series. Maybe it’s just me but it is the only book I have been found a disappointment.

I have really enjoyed the Joe Pickett series, but i think Mr. Box has become bored with the character(s). I agree with a previous viewers comment that this book was more about body count instead of a well crafted story that entertained us in the past.
I hope for more Joe Pickett in the future, but only if the write gets reinvigerated to the character and the Bighorn landscape.
