My favorite book, ever!

Oh wow! This book, will change your life, filled with scripture and deep soul searching questions. This life is about so much more than we can visibly see. (See beyond the visible 2 Cor. 4:18 is phrase that was laid on my heart this year.) The words on each page got inside my heart and captivated my mind! I have felt "restless" for awhile mixed with fear and insecurities. This book wants me looking beyond myself and see with God's vision. It's all about eternity, y'all! This book couldn't have arrived at a better time. Are you ready to go on an adventure with God? You tired of your own fear getting in your way? Jennie, this is my favorite book so far! Thank you for stepping outside your comfort zone and into our lives and sharing a love for Jesus and sparking a generation to make disciples for His glory. There is so much more I could say, but I don't want to spoil "anything." So, if you're ready for an adventure, grab this book and "risk" your journey to and with an amazing Savior.

If you are single, older, divorced, mother in her 50's or single paycheck women, this book is not for you. Yes, I have finished it and she has some really great points, it is encouraging, she has a way of bringing things to the surface and gives you a lot to think about. Problem I found is that she always talks about her supportive spouse, church and large group of married friends. If this is not your life, this book will just frustrate you.

Jennie's God-given gifting shines in this book. I've read many of her books and every time I walk away full, because it feels like I've spent time with the kind of friend who isn't afraid to grab me by the shirt collar and say things like, "Listen to me, girlfriend. You have all the pieces and all the power of a great God sitting within you. Stop overthinking it. Just do it." I love spiritual shoves and Jennie gives them in love, and from a place of humility because she herself admits to having needed them too.

"Made for This", was an extension of passion that I'm very grateful for. Whether your in a place where your confident of your calling or if you're the girl who just wants to know a little more about this Jesus guy - I recommended it.

I personally think this challenge to stare at the threads of your life is timely. For me, I set out to do the study because I just have questions about why I'm wired this way. And it's true, I learned a lot about myself. But I have to say the most beautiful thing about reaching the end of "Made for This", wasn't finally having a tidy picture of myself to carry around in my back pocket. I walked away with pieces of myself still as pieces, but with a rekindled passion to give those pieces away.

I encourage you to go on journey with Jennie and learn more about that guy, Jesus.

I started this study as a personal journey to help process my new status as an empty nester. I had no clue when I started the way it would impact me. Not only did I get to learn many things about where I’m gifted, this study, also helped me work through areas of weakness that I needed to fully submit to God and work on. Plus, I’ve always struggled with understanding the term “surrender” when it came to Christ. It’s a term the church vastly over uses while seldom defining. It was fun to work through and figure out what that meant. Letting God lead, work in and through me while being willing to both wait and walk in courage for His instruction. In the end, I found I’m already serving and working towards deepening the area of service I feel led in mentoring and discipleship. The process, however greatly encouraged me and strengthened my confidence. If you are at a point where you are just wanting to know your place with God and life while learning how you are geared to give and serve, I recommend this study.

I’m halfway through this book and I’m only finishing it bc I paid money for it. I don’t like it. Following God doesn’t always have to be risky and scary...yes sometimes it does...I’m just not motivated by the book..I’m put off...I’m disappointed bc the description was why I thought this book would help me grow in my relationship with Christ and help me to live my purpose. What can I say?? I LOVE this book! I have recommended it to all of my friends and I love that it packs a punch, challenges me; but does not require hours of bible study each day. Jennie has done a fantastic job encouraging while challenging the reader to dig deep. I also bought her book, Anything, which is a deeper dive into the subject matter. If you are looking for something that will help you silence the voices fighting for your attention, so you can figure out what God's purpose for you is; then this is the book for you!

Devotion questions make no sense

Maybe it's that I am not on the same journey? I enjoy the reading of scripture but I am confused by the devotional questions. What if you don't know what your gifts are? What if you don't know what your calling is? I am about 1/2 way through and it's getting more and more difficult to understand how the questions relate to me. Just my observation.

This book is amazing! I admit. I was a little afraid to read it because a lot of books in this genre leave me with a feeling of wanting to live for God and wanting to do better---but having no idea how to really go about it. Jennie is the real deal. I am gaining so much clarity and direction from this book!! My other big fear (lies, I know) was that I don't have any gifts to use or still wouldn't discover them. This book also helps intangle that. I can not recommend it enough!!!

Read with Caution - some unbiblical content

Not sure where to begin with this book. I got it for a church book club, and it was not at all what I expected. I thought it would be a biblical study of who God created us to be and a journey through Scripture of the idea of calling and purpose. Instead, it was a LOT of the author's stories with a sprinkling of Bible verses, and a lot of the author's additions to Scripture.

Some of the teaching IS biblical, but a lot of it isn't. She writes a lot about finding our calling to "release" others to find theirs, which isn't a concept found in the Bible. She adds to Biblical stories, writing about the emotions or thoughts that she presumes certain Biblical people have as if they were fact. Her theology is also a bit iffy - for example, at one point in the book, she writes that God "came down from heaven to get us" without making the distinction that it was Jesus who came down from heaven, so I found myself going back and rereading the book to try to get a better understanding of her view of the Trinity. I'm still not very clear on it.

There was so much in the book that set off alarm bells for me that I felt like I had to be extremely careful when reading it, so I only got about halfway through before deciding that there would be better books for me. Honestly, I found reading the Bible to be an infinitely better tool for finding and living my purpose.

I found this on accident, but because I love Jennie Allen I decided to try it out. I was in a season of confusion and doubt of what God had for me and this book helped me recenter my thoughts and walk through my past and my giftings and align them with the word. This helped me see that it isn't as much about what my big "purpose" is but that I am living it everyday in the mundane and little ways too. I highly recommend this workbook.
