2.0 out of 5 starsA whole lot of nothing...series is majorly off course

The thing that originally drew me to this series was Dalzelle's style of telling an exciting story, unapologetically free of superfluous nonsense. Lately he has seriously taken this series off of that original course. He even stated in his message to the readers in a previous book that he was trying to explore the characters and delve more deeply into who they are. The fact that he didn't do that in the first seven books is exactly why I liked them. I was quickly reminded of this when I began reading this story and realized that much of the plot and characters are based in the previous book...and I could barely remember any of it. I can practically recite the first five books at will because they were fun, and cool, and memorable.
Here's a synopsis of Legends Never Die (no spoilers...because there's nothing to spoil) - There's something evil brewing in the galaxy and we're trying to get Lucky back. That's it. I understand this book is an obvious prelude to the next, but other than something brewing in the galaxy and trying to get Lucky back, NOTHING happens. There's a lot of talk about things that happened, and a few brief moments of action, but other than that it's all just talking. Just a lot of superfluous nonsense.
If you thought The Last Jedi was a good star wars movie, then read this book. Read it now. You will gasp in breathless anticipation the whole time. But if you like stories where something happens, move on.
I will have to very seriously consider whether or not I want to risk wasting my time and money on the next book.
