How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Please note: I write this with the utmost respect to Mr Bly, a far more accomplished copywriter than I could ever hope to be. But I must be honest.

It was a slog most of the way through this book.

But I'm a completist, so I had to finish it.

Every now and then there's seriously sound advice, but for the most part it's like reading a dictionary.

All the while I was vacillating between two thoughts: "I got the book at discount, so I can't give it a one star rating," and, "for what I paid for this book, the nuggets of gold interspersed between the long lists of words are worth at least a two star rating."

But then the big surprise...

There's a wealth of copywriting gold waiting at the end of the book.

So it's worth at least four stars. (I reserve five star ratings for John Steinbeck novels and such, so four stars are like five star ratings for me.)

I can heartily recommend the book.

Thankfully. Because I was dreading giving the revered Bob Bly only one or two stars. (Phew!)

I bought this book based on a glowing review from another marketing professional. The actual product did NOT line up with his favorable comments. The content was basic and much of it could easily be picked up via an online thesaurus. I certainly expected something far more advanced. If you're a seasoned marketing professional or copywriter, then don't bother with this book. If you're new to the trade or craft, then you might find it a helpful desk reference ... but even then, your internet browser could probably do the job just as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for practical marketing

Robert W. Bly is one of the few authors I read who never disappoints. His books are similar because he always reinforces good marketing practices, a reminder which I know I need repeated to me as often as possible. But that's not to say you're just buying the same thing over and over. This is a great book for when you're having one of several problems; first, you forget that you're there to sell someone else's product and not make yourself feel artistic, and second when your brain isn't functioning for whatever reason and you need some guidance. It's also easy to read and well organized. Highly recommend the book and all of his work.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Indispensable Resource ... Not Just for Copywriters

Master copywriter and living-legend Robert W. Bly's remarkable book, "The Big Book of Words that Sell", can raise the status of all your written communications.

The Table of Contents makes finding a word/phrase in the area you want to improve quick and easy to use. Each word/phrase has an example sentence for the reader's benefit. And the Appendices alone are worth the price of the book.

The book is indispensable and remains within arms reach whenever I'm working/writing. When it comes to converting words into sales, you're in good hands with Bob Bly. After all, it is his 100th book!

So, if you want to make more sales - and improve all your written communications - why in the world wouldn't you buy it?

This is a very useful book, although reading it through isn't as useful as using it as a resource - determine what sort of marketing/sales/ads you want to do and look up the appropriate section and choose the approach that makes the most sense for what you are selling.

Having said that, everyone should read the introduction. The points the author makes about poor communication are important and should be read by all.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure trove of powerful marketing words that work fast to improve results.

I'm a big fan of business books that are jam packed with dozens and dozens of practical ideas that I can use to quickly improve my business results. And that's why I always enjoy reading anything that Bob Bly has written.

In his Big Book of Words that Sell Bob gives me several hundred great words and phrases that I can use to create more effective marketing messages.

Best of all, Bob breaks down great marketing into simple steps and then shows how to pick great words for that step.

For example : One of the goals in marketing is to reduce the customers risk when they buy any product or service. The lower the perceived risk the more likely a customer is to purchase.

On pages 110 and 111 of The Big Book of Words that sell Bob gives seven specific example of how to use great words to reduce the risk a customer might have in purchasing something.

If you create any sort of marketing messages than this book is a gold mine of useful words and phrases.

It has step by step instructions on how to make any marketing messages more effective.

And it's also a great example of my ten X value rule when buying any business book.

If its a good book I'll get a minimum of 10 times the price I paid for the book back in value within the first month. And with Bob's book I've got a lot more than ten times value back from my purchase.

Discover the new-found world of advertising offered by America’s greatest living freelance copywriter …and explore The Big Book of Words that Sell.

Bob Bly reveals how you, as a serious copywriter, can elevate your copywriting-skills to an entirely new level.

Twenty years ago, Bob’s copywriting genius allowed me, as one of seven sales agents, to capture over 80 percent of all company sales during my very first year with Micell Technologies, a biotechnology company in Raleigh, North Carolina.

I urge every marketer and copywriter to read Bob’s new book -- and learn from the master.

I've avoided and struggled through ad campaigns, blog titles, and social media posts because I just couldn't think of the right thing to say. I picked up this book to solve that problem. Although this is much more of a reference than a curl-up-and-read book, it is packed with copy ideas for all types of situations with examples to illustrate the author's point. While appendices are often fluff at the end of the book, I skipped right to them and found information that may have been best put in the front of the book so as not to be considered an afterthought. I will have this book by my side when I'm creating my next ad campaign or email newsletter.

If you‘ve graduated from high school and read at least one advertising book, you will get nothing from this. Mostly a list of words you yourself could come up with if asked. Has a few good checklists in a couple appendixes at the end. If you can get it for 99 cents, it might be worth it.

This book was so disappointing I returned it. Doesn't seem like much thought went into it. There are better books in the same style with lower price tags. If you're looking for something new and insightful on the subject of advertising or marketing you won't find it here. Robert Bly's other book, "The Copywriter's Handbook", is very good and well worth the money.
