Rayne and Jacob were high school sweethearts. Convinced they were mates. When Rayne turned 18, they found they were wrong. Rayne was pregnant and they decided to stay together. Jacob had had enough and left her with a young child and now another on the way. Zac has the best nose in the pack. His wolf has wanted Rayne since she started working for him a few years ago. He has suspected they were mates but he refrained from touching her since she was already mated. Now that she is free, he has to know. Rayne has been drawn to Zac since she met him. When he touched her she know why. They are mates. Can she trust him not to leave, will be love her children. Zac is thrilled to know Rayne is his mate. His wolf is fine with her already having pups. The man isn't so sure how he feels about raising another mans pups. Should they bond to protect their wolves then go their separate ways. When little Annemarie is taken Zac will do anything to find her. An emotionally charged story. I really didn't like Rayne. She comes across as egocentric. Maybe hormones played a part, or reactionary may just be her default. True that mom's are protective and their kids come first. True Jacob could have handled things better, in his leaving. Zac was honest in his feelings and trying to wrap his head around an instant family. Trying to figure everything out. I liked that their happily ever after is a work in progress. Life is messy. I liked that Jacob wasn't vilified. Good story. A little more is learned about what the hunters are up to. A nice to end their story. Looking forward to the next book.
She doesn't trust men because they leave or at least that is what she tells herself. She settled for a wolf not her true mate instead of waiting. Now her mate not only has to learn her but accept two children not his.
Rayne’s Perfect Mate Rayne is having a bad day. The night before her husband left her and today, she found out she is pregnant. What a mess. She has a six-year-old daughter, Annemarie. She knew that Jacob was not her imprinted mate but they loved each other. Something changed and Jacob left. Rayne’s Dad left her mom, now this is happening to her. Do all men leave when things don’t seem to work out? How will she tell her daughter that Dad/Jacob is not coming back and there will be a new baby? Annemarie notices a strange man outside their house. In the Denver Wolf Pack, there have been child abductions lately and some parents have been killed. Rayne tells Annemarie they will double check later, but her seems to be gone. Rayne has to stop by work at the Hotel where she is the bookkeeper before heading to the grocery store. Zac, her boss has always wondered if Rayne was his mate. She was married and off limits. Now that Jacob left, he could be able to find out. Rayne has always felt the attraction and her wolf seems to know that Zac is hers. How to you tell someone that if they imprint then they have an instant family? Would he even want two children not his own? Would he leave like all the other men she has known? So much stress and it seems as if someone is after Annemarie! Can Zac keep them safe? Will they imprint? This is quite the mystery. Will they solve it and find the children?

If any of these types of situations are a trigger, or offensive, then this may not be the book or series for you.
This is not the first book in the series, but it is the first I have read. It is about wolf shifters being openly known to the world, now being hunted for their young, all while trying to find their perfect mate. I was able to follow along without issue, so it is a standalone without cheating between the H/h, and a HEA. There were several grammatical errors in the copy I read that may or may not have been corrected, but none of them prevented me from understanding the author's intent.
This story is about Rayne, a female wolf shifter, who just found out she is pregnant with her second child, both by her now ex-boyfriend, Jacob. They had both thought they were mates, but didn't imprint on one another when he turned 18. They made the decision to stay together and make it work, until suddenly he walks out just like her dad did.
Zac is the owner of the hotel where Rayne works and has been fighting with his wolf since he met her. His wolf is insistent that she is their perfect mate, but because of her relationship, he has made sure not to touch her. Then he hears that the two of them has split and it could be the right time to see if they are mates, but he is not sure he is ready to be a father.
Rayne just doesn't trust men after being abandoned twice, but her wolf has been throwing a fit and telling her that Zac could be theirs. Can she trust another male not to abandon her and her soon to be two children? Plus would he even be able to accept them when he wasn't the father?
I am going to stop there so I don't accidentally provide any spoilers or twists.
I volunteered to leave a honest review of an ARC from the author and Booksprout.
I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we meet Rayne and Zac. Rayne knew that Jacob wasn't her true mate but he did promise to stay for the daughter they created. Now 6 years later he's gone and she is pregnant with his second child. The thing is all her wolf wants is not Jacob to come back and step up as a man, not it wants Zac. Zac has waited 2 years to touch her knowing she was with someone else. All he wants is to prove with one touch that he and Rayne are mate's. Now that he learns Jacob is gone all bets are off. Can these two find a HEA or will outside forces make that impossible?
This is an amazing story. It does have its ups and downs I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Rayne’s home pregnancy test confirmed she was pregnant with her second child! But the bad timing was that her mate had left her, just as her own father had done; now she had two children to raise alone. She had thought she and Jacob would be okay staying together when she got pregnant, even without having the imprint to bond them. But apparently that wasn’t enough. Her daughter called to her that there was a strange man outside, but he was gone when she checked. She felt as if someone watched her, however.
Rayne and her daughter, Annmarie, had to stop by Zac’s hotel where Rayne worked as his bookkeeper. Zac took Annmarie to the front desk to get a coloring book, and she asked him about wolves mating for life so why did her dad leave? He decided to tell the truth that her mom and dad had not imprinted. Rayne was furious at him for telling her so they went out to the car to leave. Zac followed, apologizing, but as Rayne drove away, a black car followed behind them. Could they be hunters – the kind who were currently stealing children and murdering the wolf parents?
Rayne joined her friend, Jennine, at the grocery store to vent about Zac. Jennine texted Zac and told him to join them! She then took Annmarie’s hand and they shopped while Rayne and Zac talked. Rayne told him she didn’t want to chance a relationship. If they were not mates, she was not willing to try to make it work as she had with Jacob. She was not willing to get hurt again. He promised he would never hurt her, and told him Jacob had said that same thing. A tear ran down her cheek and, without thinking, he brushed it away – as an electric spark proved they were mates. They had just imprinted! Would Rayne put away her doubts and let herself love Zac? Would he react badly to learn a second child by another man was part of the deal? And who was following Rayne and watching her house? Was there more trouble to come?
I enjoyed this story – you can’t go wrong with shifters! Things will be getting exciting when Annmarie disappears! Grab your copy and find out how all of these things will resolve and whether a HEA is possible for Rayne and Zac!

Rayne's Perfect Mate was an awesome read. It had me gripped from the very first page. The pages just went by so fast I devoured this book in under 2 hours and want more. McKayla did an awesome job depicting the true turmoil that inflicts mothers that are faced with the worse change possible, raising your kids alone. Take a journey to how she finds the answer to all her problems after a mate she never imprinted with walks out for her true mate to walk in. Looking forward to book 3 and hopefully more :).
Rayne's Perfect Mate: Bad Alpha Dads (Denver Troubles Book 2) by McKayla Schutt is a Paranormal. Erotic Romance. Rayne is must be strong for her little girl, Annmarie, and her unborn child. She knows she found her mate in Zac but is he ready to be a father to another man’s children in order to be with the woman he loves. An emotional, beautifully written read with a good, steamy storyline. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
