The story and characters have potential, but it all fell flat. Head hopping diluted the story telling. That was made worse by less than stellar editing, a lot of unnatural, stilted dialogue, emotionally flat writing, and a totally predictable, superficial storyline. Characters always seemed to know what others were thinking, even when they didn't know each other at all. Also, there were multiple instances where Red and Kate failed to respond to a situation or something that was said, which left me feeling like parts of the story were missing. That resulted in what was supposed to be suspenseful and dangerous feeling very ho-hum.
Some conversations, dialogue didn't make sense; questions weren't answered and conversation carried on like nothing was asked. Also, LOTS of repetitions - characters repeating lines of dialogue word-for-word, redundancies in thoughts. Added to that, all the characters spoke the same way, using the exact same words and turns of phrase.
A good substantive edit by someone with a firm understanding of deep point of view could bring out the potential in the story.
