My 5 year old LOVES this book!

We received this book through the Amazon Kids Book Club. I somehow, by accident developed a New York Jewish accent while reading the book (I'm Asian), and poof! it all came together. My kid absolutely loved the story. We practically read it every night now.

I was looking for a funny book to read to my daughters first grade class. I read several reviews saying this book was funny. I read it and didnt think it was that funny but thought maybe 6 and 7 year olds might have a different opinion. Not so much. It wasnt a hit with the class :(

Hilarious Story About Forgiveness

Potato Pants by Laurie Keller is the hilarious story of a cute little Potato who is so excited about the one day only sale at Lance Vance's Fancy Pants Store! He reeeally wants a stripey pair like the ones in the window. But what is this he sees?? Big Ole Eggplant is walking into the store!! Potato is annoyed and scared because yesterday Eggplant crashed into him and hurt him! He waits outside the store while all the other Potatoes get first pick of the fabulous pant collection, until finally, near the end of the sale, he can't take it anymore and rushes in, only to knock Eggplant over, ripping his pants!! Potato feels bad, but feels worse when he sees that the last pair of pants has just been sold! Suddenly Eggplant approaches and Potato is shocked speechless when Eggplant APOLOGIZES to him for hurting him yesterday and asks his forgiveness! Potato grapples with his mixed feelings and decides to forgive him! The store owner offers to fix Eggplant's pants and offers the store display pants to Potato! What a wonderfully creative story! My husband and I make it a point to regularly model apologizing for our mistakes (and we have lots of opportunities!) and it's great to have a book that not only helps us teach valuable life lessons but also makes us all laugh! All three of my boys, ages 4, 5 and 7 love this book so we definitely recommend it!

Quick and strange

Laurie Keller definitely has a lock on quirky food picture books. In this one Potato is anxious to get to the store during the Potato Pants sale so he can get (spoiler) Potato Pants. His plans are foiled by Eggplant who already has pants but is still hanging around the store. Potato wants none of that since Eggplant already knocked him down once. But how will he get his pants then?! This is a quick story about apologizing, making friends, vegetables, and the pants they wear.
