How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsFast-paced thriller with heart

I really enjoyed this, particularly the mother-daughter relationship. A woman survives a private plane crash but is presumed dead. Her estranged mother refuses to give up faith that she’s still alive, and sets out unravelling what happened. The narrative jumps back and forth between mom & daughter as we learn that after surviving, the daughter is now running for her life and trying to rescue her mother from the conspiracy that put her on the plane to begin with.

It’s good from the start, but it really picks up in the middle and races to the end. My only issue was it changes from present to past tense between narrators despite being in the same time line. This was likely a stylistic choice, but I found it a bit jarring at times. Also, as a San Diegan, I really enjoyed the local descriptions!

I did not care for any of the characters in this book. The daughter who was supposed to be so smart slept with old men for money after taking a hit of Coke. Why didn't she get a real job or call her Mother for help instead of sinking to this? The Mother I didn't care for either. She went off for two days or more and left her cat home alone and when she returned the cat was dead. It seems like it is the rule for first time writers to kill a pet cat or dog off! The Mother was supposed to have so many friends so why didn't she get someone to check on the cat while she was gone or take the cat to a kennel? The story was just okay. I wish I had saved my money.

This is a compelling read - compelling enough that I finished it. However, I was frustrated along the way. I felt like the author was manipulating the reader too much by throwing in little details but not enough to sink my teeth into. Didn't really like any of the characters except the Mother. For the protagonist to act in the way she did, especially before she wises up, I wanted to understand why she made the choices she did. This was sorely lacking. Seems like she likely had some kind of trauma to be so desperate and naive. So, it's okay but certainly not great.

Freefall was one of those thrillers I couldn’t put down. I liked the strength of the protagonists, Ally and her Mother Maggie, although I found some of Ally’s accomplishments as she attempts to cross the Rocky Mountains somewhat unbelievable, they certainly made for an entertaining read. I liked the way the novel was organized switching between Ally and Maggie’s points of view and also the way Ally’s memories reveal her back story. The book also deals with a serious subject about the possible corruption in certain pharmaceutical companies and the FDA. It’s frightening to think that this part of the story may be accurate. Overall, a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wildly thrilling!

Jessica Barry’s thriller FREEFALL is wildly thrilling and shockingly scary. A private plane has crashed in the mountains in Colorado, piloted by the only survivor’s fiancé, destination unknown. The survivor instinctually knows that she must run. She is in trouble and her continued fight for her life is imperative. While seemingly impossible, that with the extent of her injuries, she will reach safety, the weaving of the character’s struggle along with her mother’s search for her whereabouts is what draws you in. The suspense builds incrementally and then, as danger increases, you are almost gasping for breath with each turn of the page.

Book and story is told from two points of view, Allison the daughter who is thought to be dead in a plane crash. Then Maggie, her estranged mother, who can't accept that she would be dead and searches to find truth of what has happened in the last two years to her daughter and where her daughter is now. Lots of twists and turns. Was a great read!

A high octane thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I read it in one afternoon. Didn't plan to but I was sucked in immediately. Highly, highly recommend!

About 20 pages into this ridiculous novel, I fully understood why the “author” used a pseudonym. There may even be a witness protection type program for “authors” like this.

If you like one dimensional characters, a “plot” that’s held together with tape and staples, and cliched and hackneyed descriptions of....everything! then this is the book for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Plane Crash Thriller

The story moves along, between two characters, and has a lot going for it with the exception that the main character who lived through a plane crash and hikes on through the woods, one would think there would be much more pain, more delusion and confusion. She (the survivor) seems to wander aimlessly, and then when she finds help, she ignores it, making the story not plausible.

I got through this book by skipping most of it. I am glad the women were strong. I do wonder what made others review it so highly.
