Read a bit like a travel monologue....
Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2018
I liked it, but not nearly as much as I'd hoped. Honestly, it read like a travel monologue to me. The traveling was too much, the popular attractions and their descriptions were too repeated, there was too little memorable happening and the tone was too casual and laid back. Additionally, the world building was not really expanded upon. It was fine for the first book, but started to feel thin here. The same with the character motivations, actually. And while I don't like to be bogged down in moral ambiguity, the divisions were too clean cut, too black and white. And small of note, but I also got tired of hearing how much of a hunk her companion was. 4 stars instead of 3 because I really want to read more, it's my kind of story with my kind of characters for all how thin and uninteresting everything started to feel here. I just wish the author would take another look at what made the first book such a hit, and what thin points were shown here. I guess that sounds harsh, but I still enjoyed the book, and appreciate the author getting it out so quickly.
