How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsStewart Matthews needs grammar police

Ok story line, kept my interest but the author's grammar left me frustrated. In standard English, its grammatically incorrect to say "between you & I". The reason for this is that a preposition such as between or for should be followed by an objective pronoun (such as me, him, her, & us) rather than a subjective pronoun (such as I, he, she, & we). Book 2 has the same problem.

2.0 out of 5 starsJust too improbable
Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2019
The actual telling of the tale is OK - but all just far too over-the-top and improbable.
The hero is yet another of those teflon-coated, bullet-proof individuals who continually gets out of unbelievable scenarios.
Then there's all those silly fight scenes that are told in boring detail about unlikely moves.
At one stage the hero is fighting in a crashing helicopter for ages (the pilot is dead) and he talking 'quietly' to the antagonist - has the author never flown in a helicopter?
Pity really - the basic premise could have carried the story.
Add a few grammatical ooppss and - while it's promoted as 'action packed' - just treat it as a comedy as it'll have you laughing at the incongruities.

MATADOR, a Barrett Mason Thriller, Volume 1, published, copyright and written by Stewart Matthews.
Barrett is a former Recon Marine now working on clandestine operations for the U. S. under direction of his old commanding officer. The reader meets him as he is attempting to extract a microbiologist defecting from Iran. The defector is killed as the operation is underway and Mason must now save himself but there is another problem. The scientist, without informing anyone, had brought his daughter to be extracted with him. Mason feels responsible for saving this pre-teenage child who provides an additional problem in that she speaks only her native tongue. The story evolves as he eventually is able to get the two back to the states where the plot further develops as the very intelligent child is able to retrieve all of her father’s secretive data, shine light on a viscous world-wide operation to not only take over the U.S., but other nations, as well. This story ends with a degree of closure and provides entre to Volume 2.
Discussion: More pragmatic readers may need to overlook the question of how Barrett can make as many mistakes and often the inadequate moves as he does and still survive. If this has been his modus operandi through his numerous years in the Marines and subsequent clandestine activity, his survival has been amazing. His escapes in this volume mostly result from the intervention of good Karma and as a parenthetical aside, conversations within a helicopter are difficult at best, and many of the fight scenes here and elsewhere could benefit from editing. However, if one is addicted to thrillers regardless, this tale is replete with interesting characters with whom a reader can empathize as they proceed in a fast-paced plot that provides a base upon which to build the next escapade,

I've enjoyed his other books, but this new series promises to eclipse them all. Talk about a story that will keep you up late reading, with a hero that's between the devil & the deep blue sea---this is it!

This was an awesome book, Mr. Matthews! Kudos!!! I liked the book from the beginning to the very end! You know how to weave a real great story. I loved how you through in 2 pieces; a ex-flame who still has the main character going & a kid who gets inside of his heart. All the while the thriller is going. Way to go!

Like any good super spy, this guy sounds like a superhero. He manages to get shot at, beaten, threatened, and generally goes through hell. In spite of all that, he makes it, although somewhat worse for wear. The good news is that he does all of that in an entertaining way that moves along very well and that holds your interest throughout. Welcome Barrett Mason - we'll be looking forward to your next adventure.

Enjoyed the book...clearly enough to go out and get the next one. I read for enjoyment and can look past the unbelievable super human skills that some of our hero’s have. Like Reacher and Rapp Barrett has flaws, and also a heart. Give it a read and I believe you’ll find it enjoyable.

I was not familiar with this author but I tried this book because I was waiting for some of my favorite authors new books. As it turned out this is one of the most exciting books in this genre that I have ever read. From the first page to the last this is a action filled high tension nail bitter of a thriller.

Barrett is in charge of an 11-year-old girl, Kejal, whose father was killed while meeting with Barrett at a library. A microbiologist, the girl's father was about to turn over information about a biological weapon that the Iranians want to get their hands on. A good story with intrigue, violence and a little heart.
