I've studied classical music my whole life and this book opened up new composers and new types of music; it's a constant discovery. I bought this for my daughter but kept it for myself!

This is a good book if you're familiar with all the music referred to by the author (I'm not). For a more comprehensive and interesting book about the history of music I like, "The Story of Music: From Babylon to the Beatles" by Howard Goodall.

A good bridged history of Music, ideal for students wishing to get closer to this enormous and beautiful subject.
Why though, the greatest Romantic composer of 19 century, Anton Bruckner, only mentioned in one brief paragraph.

Terrible condition of book cover, alot of scratches and tears perhaps because of the poor handling. Overall, the book is excellent. The page quality is lmpeccable ! Such comprehensive history explained in a simple, essential and intelligible way. The illustration work is phenomenal.
Overall, its a must buy for all the western music fanatics....
