This has been my favorite book in the series so far. I loved both the H and h. They both had some baggage to work through, but I felt they worked well together. I thought there was a lot more action and mystery in this book. It seemed like there was always a missing explanation for the danger following Liv and it wasn’t until fairly close to the end that it was all explained.
Riker was a single dad who had lived for his daughter, Em, and his work at Enguard since his wife died 4 years ago. He gets assigned to play the fake fiancé to the sister of a famous music star and begrudgingly accepts his fate. It was amazing watching Riker open up to Liv. She was the light to his dark, the young to his old, the innocence to his depravity, but she brought him back to life.
Despite being classified as enemies to lovers, this was more of a strangers to lovers, grumpy sunshine story. The age gap felt a little weird at times, but I think that was because Riker didn’t act like someone in his 40s and Liv didn’t act like a typical 21 year old. Their personalities made them seem much closer in age. Overall I really enjoyed this book, there was plenty of action and mystery to go along with a protective alpha and the two women he would do anything to keep safe.
