I am a mom of 4 teenage daughters who love the game of basketball, and I bought this book because I was initially attracted to the idea of living your life without fear using the game as life lessons. However, after the first few pages, I found the high school English teacher in me coming out as I began annotating and marking up every single page. It was a few pages in when I realized this book was providing answers to things I still struggled with. And not only that, wished I’d had back in the day when I was trying to navigate my life. Mr. Brundage was able to write a book based on faith without feeling like I had signed up for bible study. The way he weaved in God’s truths as truths without making the reader feel ashamed for not being a straight a Sunday School scholar, but rather a REAL person trying to make sense of finding the real version of self and having the courage to go out and live it ... somehow gave me answers as a 39 year old single mother desperate for her daughters to find a better way to navigate life sooner rather than later.
I will be purchasing a class set of this particular book to do a book study with my homeroom kids whom I get to mentor all the way to Senior year year. At a time when teenagers are struggling with suicide, and identity, I believe this book is a solution to many of their unvoiced struggles.
I will also be purchasing this book for each of my girls. This book is the advice, and truths I’d wished I had at the age of 18 when I had no clue life wasn’t supposed to be about pretending your way through a used blueprint of every other 18 year old from every other family. This book breathed life into me at the age of 39.
I’m excited to breathe life into kids brought into my path, and this book is going to allow me to impact my kids greatly.
Read it. Then, pass it on. This book is written for those of us who really connect with the game we all love, but the truths inside it are universal.
I’ve yet to uncover a book that captures the struggle of today’s culture and provides solutions to issues we didn’t even realize are issues. Highly recommend.
This book is very inspiring, it's very insightful, it's very enlightening, thought provoking and it pushes you to do something different with your life. Even before I had finish reading this book I reconnected with one of my mentors because I know I needed someone to help me reach my goals.
I have been trying to find a book that my son would enjoy reading. He says he does not enjoy reading BUT this book he can't put it down. Thank you so much. I hope you can do more books for young men like my son!
This is definitely the book I needed to read especially during these uncertain times of the pandemic going on in the world. I never read books from start to finish so I am proud to say that this is the one I did fully read from front to back. So many life lessons in here for anyone that reads this no matter your background. 5/5 Thank you. Shoot your shot!

Enjoyed sitting down to read this book each day. Full of little nuggets to inspire and motivate, especially for anyone that’s into basketball. Great place for a high school or college basketball player to start learning to read for personal growth.
Amazing read from start to finish. Once I started reading I couldnt stop. So much in this book that anyone can learn from, relate to and incorporate into their daily lives. My boyfriend started reading it and enjoys it just as much as I did. Great job Vern!
