Disappointing Violence, no point
Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2019
The writing and banter between the characters was nice. I thought that Amanda and the crew of the Sabrina really came through as characters, and capturing that in a multi-author book is tricky.
Unfortunately, the plot was pointless and didn't hold together. The Aeon 14 universe deals with a lot of violence, but manages to strike a balance between displaying enough to be realistic while not reveling in the violence itself. This book captures two of the worst attributes of the Star Magus universe: graphic pointless descriptions of violence whaile actually failing to make it look like the main characters are facing any real challenge. In the rest of the Aeon 14 books, I feel like the characters are growing an developing and facing a real challenge. Here it was all about watching the body count pile up.
