I was given this children's book for free to read review. I really liked this children's book. I have read quite a few books by this author and I like that they always have something to teach the child that is reading them. The story is whimsical and has wizards and magic but is also has a lesson on how we should treat each other. Maude's side of the island is going through a draught and the other side has more than enough to share but instead they are being influenced by an evil wizard to be greedy. When the tables are turned though it's Maude who, instead of abandoning the leader of the other side like everyone else when he is ill and alone, realizes there is good in him and helps him recover. It just goes to show that we should always look for the good and do what is right. I also like that the book is written for kids at an age that they still enjoy using their imagination but are old enough to not need silly simple stories and babyish writing. This is a great book for ages I'd say 8 to 12 or if you are like me an adult that just likes to good writing.

This book is really a fun read. It is about a girl named Maude who lives on an island. One day, her half of the island is subjected to a horrible drought brought on by a water wizard. She and her father then have to work to reclaim the water for the island.
While, yes, the story was predictable, it was still a nice read. The only criticism that I have is that the author tends to butt in with phrases like, "as you know" or something along those lines. It just pulled me out of the story and it was jarring. If that were eliminated, this book would have gotten a full 5 stars.
I received this digital book through a Hidden gems for free for an honest review.
My First grader and I took turns reading this book. The storyline is good and had good imagination. It kept his attention even though it’s not the books he reads. The illustrations went great with the story for younger kids to help put it all together. Would recommend this.
This is a beautiful, well-written chapter book about kindness, friendship, and magic for kids 11-year-old and up. The characters are strongly built, with funny, inspiring names. I loved the black-and-white illustrations which give a charming touch to the entire book. I highly recommend this book to every creative, smart kid. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
