“A Powerful Sith You Will Become.”

This is a beautiful character study taking place literal seconds after the immolation scene in Episode III. The character depth we see here truly displays the transition period between the last bits of humanity in Anakin to the slow decline into the heartless and borderline robotic Vader. The story is unique, adding fun new things to the canon, such as how Sith get lightsabers, and whatever happened to the Jedi Archives on Coruscant. This is all portrayed wonderfully but Giuseppe Camuncoli’s art, which is vibrant and full of life, partially due to an amazing colorist, but also due to his own stylized way of drawing the Star Wars universe, evoking the Clone Wars era in a lot of ways while delivering the origins of the Empire. In many ways, this is probably my personal favorite of the new comics published by Marvel after the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm. Charles Soule tells a compelling tale of the final shreds of Skywalker being buried behind a mask of hatred, anger, and pain. If you thought the birth of Darth Vader was in Revenge of the Sith, you were wrong. It’s here.
