I am a Balanced Body Pilates Master Instructor and I have been practicing and teaching Pilates for about 20 years. I have worked with many scoli clients, so I too have been reading and studying the research to find as many ways as possible to help them. I am writing to thank you for your most recent book. You have taken a mess of information and synthesized it into a cohesive plan that is useful for any Pilates instructor. I have used many of the techniques described in your book, but you have organized them, so now I have the tools to create real change in my clients. This book, along with my new scoliometer, is now a permanent fixture in my bag of tricks!
I am a Pilates teacher who has scoliosis, two of my kids have scoliosis as well. This book was a true gem for me. As a Pilates instructor I knew a lot of the alignment principles but was lacking the in-depth knowledge of scoliosis. The book shares the latest research on scoli and how it can be applied to the movement practice.
There is no one-fit-all recipe for scoliosis. You constantly have to adjust and work with the body in front of you. Erin shares valuable advice on how to analyze the scoli back in front of you and how to design the best movement practice for this person. Here is what I liked about the book: - detailed pictures - Pilates and release exercises to try (several of them were new to me and my scoli body really loved them) - Tips on how to work with fused clients - Finding different focus of exercise for scoli clients - the easy language - the book was a pleasure to read and reread!
I have been learning about Pilates, Anatomy, Scoliosis and running a Pilates Studio from Erin Myers since 2006. I continue to learn each day and she is an incredible resource for information about movement....bottom line: I have read it 3 times and use the information in my practice each day to help the body in front of me.
I love this book. It is written in terms that helped me apply my knowledge of Pilates and gain a good understanding of scoliosis to enable me to help my clients right away. Easy to read with good illustrations to enhance learning. A thorough understanding helped me feel confident and gave me the ability to modify exercises based on each client’s individual needs. Highly recommend this book whether you already have clients with scoliosis or your first one walks through the door tomorrow.
Oh, I'm so glad that I found this book. So much useful information about scoliosis. Highly recommend to anyone that is working with scoliosis patients, has scoliosis, or knows someone with scoliosis. Thank you, Erin, for all the work you put into this!
I love this book - it has helped me tremendously in my work as a pilates instructor, as I work with scoliosis clients. Highly recommended for other instructors who have scoliosis clients (or want to work with this population as a target market).
Analyzing Scoliosis is a groundbreaking, comprehensive guidebook that will help every instructor conquer the common fear, anxiety, and hesitation that comes with working with scoliotic clients.
Erin Myers is not afraid to confront long held myths and dogmas about movement and the scoliotic body, offering instead her well-reasoned insights based on the latest scientific research and the results of years of success with her own clients. The number of practical tools and techniques in the book that can be used right away is mind-blowing.
Erin is a master in her field who has the rare gift of being able to simplify complicated subjects while demonstrating the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of everything she presents. Erin’s books are essential additions to my research library, and Analyzing Scoliosis is a must-have book on your studio shelf and a required read for your entire staff.
