Like all of Elizabeth Hunter's Elemental books, Blood Apprentice is well-researched, fast-paced (no long rambling narratives, and no words are wasted), and very hard to put down. Hunter is an excellent storyteller, and her books are always well edited with very few errors. This is no exception. Once again, the characters are beautifully crafted and entirely believable as people, even if some of them do have fangs. And best of all, some old favourites make an appearance!
Although I suspect that I am in a very small minority of readers who are not hanging out for a romance between Ben and Tenzin, this series does seem to be heading that way, and it's cleverly handled. Any angst or indecision is realistic, and never maudlin or sappy, never overtaking the plot. The only disappointment is learning that there will be a bit of a wait until the next installment in this highly entertaining series. Patience is a virtue, unless there's a book to anticipate!
Recommended. Five stars.
