As a mama of a kiddo with hearing loss, I absolutely loved it!!

We love the baby loves science series by Ruth Spiro and this one was My favorite so far. We bought this because my son has a hearing loss in one ear and I thought it would be a good way to teach him about the mechanisms of hearing in a way a young child can understand. I was so happily surprised when I flipped through and saw that hearing aids, cochlear implants, and sign language were all included!! It’s great for kids like my son to be able to see children like themselves in stories!

Cute book that explains to little ones how hearing and the ear work.

We really enjoy and recommend the Baby loves series. However, the more recent ones, including this book about hearing seem to target slightly older kids than the earlier books. Even though she is only 8 months, our little one enjoys when we read longer books to her as long as it is simple enough (e.g. rhymes, rhythm, repetitive, easy language, interesting sounds/funny voices) - she likes when we read from the baby loves series Coding, Thermodynamics and a couple others. But when we read this (or from the other baby loves the senses), she starts slapping the book away after not even half the book.

I think with these more difficult concepts in the newer books of the series and more complex language, they should have developed a sub-series called toddler loves or something like that to indicate that it addresses slightly older kids. I kept the book since I'm sure there will come a time when she likes it but that is probably years away. I actually think, the age this book targets, might even only be once they outgrow board books. Because of this, only the 4 stars.

The book itself is very nicely done and informative, with very cute illustrations, including how the ear works/ear anatomy. So I would recommend it but maybe only after you see that the earlier baby loves books seem to be too simple for your little one.

We really like the Baby Loves series, but this is my favorite so far.
A+ on all levels: the physics, the biology, the terminology, the inclusiveness (defines cochlear implants, hearing aids and shows sign language; racial and cultural diversity is showcased with all 4 different children in this story).
The illustrations are super charming.
And my kid won't stop asking for it. :)

My daughter (age 4) has bilateral hearing loss and wears two hearing aids. This was the first book that really helped explain to her what her diagnosis was! AND helped mom and dad be able to explain it to others. The illustrations are darling, and the science is explained so well. I love that this book is so inclusive, and shows kids who are hearing, hard of hearing, and deaf (both aided with CI and not). It shows that hearing is on a spectrum, and ALL kids can enjoy sound, no matter how much or how little they can 'hear'.

I honestly can't say enough good things about this book, and i am SO SO glad that this is on the market.

Love this book for kids with hearing loss! I love that it not only explains how people hear, but explains that some ears need help with cochlear implants and hearing aids and has pictures of kids with hearing devices. They also show a child who communicates with sign language and show him enjoying music with his friends. I love that different modalities and technology are shown, which brings acceptance. Love it.

I work with families who have deaf and hard of hearing infants and toddlers. This is a great book that explains hearing and even different listening devices and how some people with hearing loss communicate using sign language :)
