One entertaining read. Spoiler alert.
This one starts with Buck, a long haul trucker who's in Modesto, CA. He's getting ready to pick up a load to haul back to NY City. His son Garth is in NY City staying with his best friend Sam and his parents. This is how it works for Buck and Garth because Buck's long distance runs usually last three weeks out of a month.
Buck is ex military who was in the sandbox during Iraq and Afghanistan. He has a pin in his leg which bothers him at times. Once out of the military he became a long haul trucker. Its a life he loves. On the death of his wife he became a single parent. Garth is his other great love.
On his way back to his truck he sees a bright blue wave go shooting through the sky. Not sure what he's looking at he watch's as it disappears. Little does he know this blue wave is deadly.
Garth and his friend Sam are at La Guardia airport to meet Sam's parents who are returning from a trip to Chicago. As they wait in an area with a fine view of the landing field Garth spots that blue wave. He has no idea what he's looking at. About then a plane hits the tarmac nose first and bursts into flames. Garth and Sam have no idea if its his parents plane or not.
Buck picks up the load and heads out. He's looking to hit I-80 which will take him straight to White Plains, NY. On the way, not even out of California, he hits a massive storm with more lightening than he's ever seen. After listening to other truckers ahead of him, truckers who's transmissions are cut off, Buck decides to head back South and then go around the storm. He has Big Mac a six month old Golden Retriever he got at a shelter. He was more than surprised to find a pure bred of any kind at the shelter. So far Mac has been a great traveling companion.
Garth and Sam will have their share of adventures as will Buck. All because of that blue wave.
So begins one fine read.
This one has Buck, Garth, Sam, Faith a scientist, Dez and naturalist in Australia, a cave in on the subway, a Buck who manages to stay ahead of that storm and finally gets away from it, a Buck who has been calling Garth and leaving messages, a Garth who never gets one of those calls, a General at NORAD trying to figure out what's going on, the men at Three Mile Island also trying to figure out what's going on, Garth and Sam on a wild ride with a crazy cab driver, and Buck doing his best to get home on this crazy ride he's on, see his son, survive and stay alive.
