This is a very well done book. I loathe, loathe, loathe “self-help” books - as most are inane, inpractical, and poorly written - but the opposite of each was true with this book. It iz frounded, practical, and an enjoyable read. As someone who tried to get a law form off the ground, but couldnt - I reallllly wish I had had this book before I tried. As the authors readily admit, it is not a manual to opening a firm, but more a lesson plan. It wont tell you exactly what to do to open and create a successful law firm, but it will put your head in the right place to determine what to do and do it.
It is also quite amazing how candid the authors are in both their successful strategies as well as there memorable mistakes. The only lawyer of the group I know personally is Bill Umansky - so I paid especially close attention to his parts and am glad I did. What his parts show is that like in most fields, there is no hidden secret to success or trait that makes you a person destined for success, just hard word and drive. This is quite satisfying, because it shows anyone can do it. His parts also highlight what is best about this book: that is goes over both the general concets, but also grounds them with relateable examples of their application (too many books like this dont - and just stat vague).
When I was in law school, Foonberg's "How to Start and Build a Law Practice," was required reading. While a basic primer on the subject, it hasn't aged well or been updated in too long. In this day and age, digital marketing, applications, and practice management shifts by the moment. This book is the Foonberg for the modern era and should be required reading for anyone thinking of starting their own firm. It's approachable for people of all walks--those considering starting a firm out of law school and those who may own a firm already.
It's complete with different perspectives, across practice areas, and contains the kind of honest self-reflection and disclosure that Brene Brown would be proud of. This book is as much an act of courage for the lawyers who share their journeys in it, as it is a gift to the lawyering community. It is honest, approachable, and practical.
I can't recommend the book more highly and will gift it to anyone I can for years to come.
Tiger Tactics is a great manual for how to build a tremendously successful law firm. Billie Tarascio, Ryan McKeen, William Umansky, Theresa DeGray and Jay Ruane take a 30,000 foot approach to law firm management and in so doing have written an amazing guide to building a law firm that any lawyer would be proud to call their own.
If you are a young attorney or a seasoned veteran, you would be wise to heed the advice of these smart and savvy lawyer entrepreneurs.
They each have a unique and interesting story that, when pulled together into this book, redefine what true success from a personal and business standpoint really means.
I was a prior prosecutor that decided to open up a private law firm. Opening your own firm is easy in theory but in practice ... I had no idea how difficult it would be. I bought this book to help me focus. I wanted to be smart in spending my money and not just throw it at Google. Buying this book was one of the best things I've done so far. Each chapter deals with a practical issue: launching your firm, on-line marketing, retaining clients, to name a few. Then five successful attorneys give their perspectives and advice on each topic. It was interesting to see how each attorney handled each issue. And the authors were very frank writing about the mistakes they've made. Not only did this make me feel better about not instantly succeeding, it showed how challenging growing a firm really is. I recommend that every attorney who has opened their own firm or is thinking about it read this book. It's an amazing value.
This really is a very good and very helpful book for anyone who runs or manages a law firm. There are great practical tips as well as very interesting discussions that help to change the way I approach the management of my firm and question the ways I have always done things. I find myself taking notes on almost every chapter and have started to implement the strategies discussed. I strongly recommend this book to anyone running or managing a law firm or thinking about starting their own firm. I only wish I had this book earlier in my career.
I work with attorneys all the time with their digital marketing and IT. This book is loaded with great information for attorneys who run a practice and/or market a practice. Plenty if real world scenarios to go along with the information. I'd even go so far as to say other business owners can learn from this. Great job.

I just finished Tiger Tactics and its a book I wish I would have had 15 years ago when I was starting. It's a great kick in the seat for those of us who can be practicing better, and its without question a must read for anyone considering, starting, or operating a law firm of any size.
