For a digital book the death series is extremely pricey. The books continue to get shorter and shorter. Really pricey for what amounts to a novella. This book appears to have been written prior to books 48 and 49. The pond is a dead (pardon the pun) giveaway. This book flows from book 47 and is more inline with previous offerings. Book 48 seemed to be written by a 3rd grader with a crayon and there were multiple errors in the story line. That would make sense if the line up of book releases were changed. Not much time to throw words at the computer screen. Book 49 was slightly better but all the story characters were about as one dimensional as might be expected from a first time author. For this the reader is expected to pay $15. This book number 50 while short was a decent addition to the series. I laughed out loud at Eve's door comment to Peabody. It's been quite sometime when reading one of the death books I've thought "we should be friends". I have come to realize how much contempt robb/roberts has for her readers. I am done with this series and this book feels like the right time to move on.

Interesting story stripped of most of the interesting characters. You will not see interaction with McNab and Shebody, nor Mavis and her family. No Nadine at all.

I’ll read anything by JD Robb/ Nora Roberts. This one wasn’t one I’d read twice. Entertaining but I expect more

2.0 out of 5 stars Who wrote this ?

I don't know who wrote the last 3 books in this series but if it was Nora Roberts she must have had a brain change. I returned 48 and 49 . I will keep 50 it at least shows some promise. If you are going to let someone else write for you ( or help write with you) why not tell the readers. I'm not sure how anyone who has read 1- 47 can believe these last 3 were written by the same person. I have to say I will never believe Nora wrote these on her own.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Disappointing

I have been looking forward to this book for months. I have read the entire In Death series multiple (okay, 4!) times. I have loved the setting (future NYC), the characters (ROARKE and everyone else!), their interplay, even Eve and Roarke's arguments. There has always been at least a modicum of passion - until now. This book was as dry as dust.

Two brief visions of Summerset - not even sure he spoke two full sentences. Peabody had a big role, but not a word from McNabb. Literally. Some of the cops, and Feeney, made brief appearances, but none of them seemed to have anything to sat. Yes, Charles and Louise were there, and a brief consult with Mira, but none of the other friends and/or family that have made this such an enjoyable series.

I was willing to pay $15 for my ebook, something I do for the dozen or so authors whose work I revere. I don't think I am going to do that for Book 51. I will wait until the price drops.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you for 50 books about Eve & Roarke

InDeath#50!

An amazing milestone from a three book beginning!

Thank you Ms Roberts, for a couple in Eve and Roarke, who shift the way we read police procedurals. Thank you for a cast of characters who are as trustworthy in their actions as they are good at their fictional jobs. It is super easy to take great writing for granted, but we really shouldn’t. Coming back to the well fifty times and bringing back something new and fresh each time takes skill and a love of what one does. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

When someone dies of a fast acting and fast dissipating toxin, - one that was so specific in its action that even ten feet of distance would have left anyone else unaffected - Eve Dallas has to really dig for motive. The victim, Kent Abner, is a beloved pediatrician and an amazing human being with no real grudges against him. But someone wanted him dead, specifically and particularly. The why is what bugs Eve the most; and finding out why, shapes her understanding of who.

Great story!

As with every single one of her books, this was a truly excellent story, perhaps her best of the series. I laughed, I cried, and I raged against the injustice of the situation, sometimes in the same two or three pages. I could not possibly recommend this book more than I do. The story has every element a great story needs, an easily followed plot, very strong characters, whether protagonist OR antagonist, a strong love story entwined, and a strong and satisfying ending. We read to forget the woes of our lives and to see if the rest of our emotions are actually intact. We read to satisfy some of the emotions we cannot afford to make public. and finally we read to experience truly happy endings which are sometimes elusive to us in real life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fiftieth!

As usual, the suspense storyline is exciting and keeps you thinking. Most of our beloved familiar characters are here. We have most of the usual elements of an In Death book and a few nice, quiet moments between Eve and Roarke.

This series is by far my favorite series and JD Robb (Nora Roberts) is clearly the unparalleled master of creating a universe, developing characters and maintaining that universe and those characters over the long haul without compromising the quality or integrity of the franchise. 50 books plus nearly 20 novellas in anthologies over the course of 25 years. I just don’t see it ever happening again. And man am I counting on it continuing for a long while yet!

As someone who has read all the books multiple times and is now working my way through all of them on audio as well, I made a list of the characters I expected to see, the items I expected to see referenced and particular scenes I expected to read based on what I’ve come to expect from the books.

I was pretty damn close on all three lists. Only three people on my list weren’t at least mentioned. I was shocked at who did not share page time with Eve though and how small a role others played. (No spoilers!) In terms of the items I had a list of 15 that appear in nearly every book and only two did not here but I was super shocked about them, especially one of them, as they are such iconic representations of the start of the Roarke and Eve relationship. As far as the scenes go, I had 13 that always appear and only one did not, again a major shock given it’s role from the beginning.

The book lived up to my expectations with this series and Robb’s craft. I hate that I read it in one sitting because now it’s over and I’ve got seven months to wait for the next one...which of course I’ve already pre-ordered. You can’t go wrong with this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars An engrossing and thrilling Fiftieth book

Eve Dallas is about o find her latest case is one filled with twists and turns that don’t make sense and will have her scrambling as she tries to discover the connection of who wanted Doctor Kent Abner dead.

When Kent Abner opens a package, he doesn’t anticipate dying within seconds as a toxic substance goes airborne and kills him. As Eve Dallas and her trusty partner, Det. Peabody try to figure out who would want to murder the friendly pediatrician, Eve has to sort through Kent’s past and when another dies in the same grisly manner, she is determined to find the madman behind it and stop another from dying.

GOLDEN IN DEATH is an amazing, enthralling story that will leave you breathless. Fifty books into this series and you wonder, what can the author do next to top the last book and J.D. Robb pulls out all the stops with this one. Her mystery of who the killer(s) were left me hanging until mid-way when I finally started seeing the clues as Eve, Peabody and the gang rustled them up as well. The story is full of twists and turns that just had me on the edge of my seat and I was glued to the pages till the very end since I wanted to see how this story would end. GOLDEN IN DEATH is a true marvel as the author does a masterful job capturing the confusion Eve finds when she is assigned this baffling case. I just could not put this book down, even to go to sleep. It was that good.

What makes this series so beloved with her readers is the way the characters continue to grow with each book. Eve and Raork especially are connected on a soul level that comes across perfectly in GOLDEN IN DEATH. They have been through so much in the last several books that it is nice to see the connection between them grow stronger in this new book. Some may complain that not all of Eve’s friends, etc are involved in this fiftieth book but then we wouldn’t have a story that is so compelling and addicting. We got the core group (Eve, Roark, Peabody, McNabb, etc) involved with this one and it works just fine with the group that is needed by Eve. With an addition of a new secondary character or two, the reader can enjoy a storyline that could be cut right from the pages in the future.

GOLDEN IN DEATH works because the author delivers a complex mystery to solve filled with compelling characters that literally step from the pages and into your living room. They are bold, well written and just downright amazing in my opinion. This is an author that knows how to craft a story that will leave you breathless. If you enjoy a high-octane story that will eave you eager for more than I urge you to run to grab GOLDEN IN DEATH. It’s truly a masterpiece and now I can’t see where this author goes next in the fifty-first book.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement
