5.0 out of 5 stars~~Murders/Human Trafficking/Suspense~~
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2020
First of all I must write that if I am ever in any kind of trouble, I want Court Gentry...AKA the Grey Man...to either be on my side or come and rescue me...Hopefully I will never be in that situation but if I am...come and get me out of my distress...

This novel starts in Croatia with Court Gentry attempting to assassinate a Serbian war criminal from 25 years ago. Retired General Ratko Babic has been living peacefully surrounded by bodyguards for many, many years. And, yes, he was responsible for murdering over 8000 men and young boys. His quiet litle farmhouse, however, holds a secret of its own...This novel is off to a rip roaring start. Wow.

The reader will be transported from Croatia to Hollywood with many stops in between. There are a lot of characters and was glad the author provided the list at the beginning of this one. Lots of different locations, different jobs and of course, different motives.

The descriptions are vivid throughout this novel and at times downright sickening to read. When a reader has his senses fully awakened by the writing, it illustrates excellent skills by the author. The amount of money involved in this global trafficking of drugs, guns, sex, immigrants and more is staggering. The Director of the Consortium raked in around $10 billion a year. And, that is one person involved in this circle of traffickers.

So, the question in this novel becomes whether or not The Grey Man will be able to complete his mission. The intel on a terrorist attack on US soil seems viable but....

Lots of truly evil people in this novel and the suspense is palpable throughout. One quote that I really liked from Maurice, a CIA handler: "Hope is not a strategy". And, Court remembered this for years.

A perfect read on a snowy and blowing day in Vermont. Loved the multi-layered plot, the dialogue was clear and crisp and the action continued from the beginning until the end.

Most highly recommended.

I am an avid Gray Man fan! i have a personal problem reading books written in the first person. Some people enjoy reading first person books but i do not. I do not recall a Gray Man book being written in the first person before this book. It takes away from the whole story for me. If you enjoy first persons books, you will enjoy this book. I hope Mark Greaney does not write another Gray Man in first person or i will have to avoid the book. I gave this book 3 stars because it is a good story. But for me personally it is a one star book.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Gray Man becomes the FUNNY MAN
Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2020

This is the 9th book in the series, and I had hoped that the series which started off so good would grow. For me it did not live up to expectations towards the end. Please note this is only what I think.

The series started out so well with number 1 and 2. Ballistic as 3 was for me a drop. It the climbed via 4, 5 & 6. In 7 I started to have some reservation. In 8 it for me became plainer, and number 9 One Minute Out clinched it.

Now we are getting funny comments from Court, and his “partners”. A few here and there where appropriate would be good – but in no. 9 there is TOO MUCH. The Court starts to analyze his “life” while in the heat of a battle.
The other thing that I now see is there is so much action that does not even remotely seem realistic. He “always” seems to loose his weapons when needed most.

If there is a number 10 I would purchase it to see if the trend continues, or if the Gray man becomes the GRAY MAN again. For my sake I hope Mark returns to the “theme” he had in the early part of the series (not number 3 though).

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly below par variation on the Gray Man formula

Greany is trying to keep his by now predictable Gray Man indestructible one-man army action formula fresh by introducing a first person narrative and a preachy moral theme about the evils of human trafficking. Neither new element is entirely successful, but the basic Gray Man formula still works. Also, the side characters in this episode are not as interesting or well developed as in previous installments. Its still a good read but not quite up to the level of the earlier books.

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as the others

I have read all the grey man novels and will continue to do so, but this is the weakest so far. Not that it wasn't full of suspense or action or the core plot was bad. It just felt as if the author was running out of ideas (or time) to come up with a better text. I read it to the end but felt slightly disappointed that the author didn't try harder to write at the (high) level of his previous books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best in the series

I am a huge Gray Man fan and have read the entire series. Matt Greaney writes action scenes better than anyone else, They can't all be gems, but this was definitely a weaker effort. Several key incidents were a little too implausible, even for the Gentry. But, as long as their are new books, I'll keep reading. Just started the latest.

It seems to happen eventually, writers get the name started then farm out work, the ghost writer of I'm correct is not a bad writer, but the story drags, I read another book for two days during this one. It just felt different and not as well written as previous books.

3.0 out of 5 stars A slow day at the office

It would be pure entertainment if the Gray Man makes an unbelievable stunt to kill a bad guy, but not if the story is an unbelievable stunt. This one's off, characters wasted, just a bad day at the office for Gentry. Then again, Jack Reacher had one, just one, so can the Gray Man.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very good read, changes narration to first person view. A bit of a switch-up

I have read the Grey Man series start to finish. I have highly anticipated each release and bought the last 3 books on their release date. This one was no different, I was very excited to get the book. And then....

It's first person format. The main character is narrating a play by play of the events for us (the audience). This threw me off because all the other books have been third person narration of events, which to me is better. The book is still good and I recommend any grey man fans to purchase it of course, but it's something to be aware of.

It was a bit tough for me to stick with, but ultimately was a good read. If you like grey man then for sure get it, but be aware of the narration style.

3.0 out of 5 stars DEATH & Gore occur far to easy

Story is almost juvenile in its simplicity, “moral” renderings and descriptions of murder and mayhem. Mr. Greaney should have paid more attention to the way Clancy told the story.

...but shifting to a first person narrative for the protagonist was a little off-putting and took some of the gray away from the Gray Man.
