5.0 out of 5 starsJonus (sigh) Bestill my heart!
Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2019
This is the last installment of the Rescued from Ruin series. I must say that this author just keeps getting better and better. I was not impressed with the earlier books in the series with the exception of the prequel, but the last few have been extraordinary! (Especially, books 8 and 9 which I have read and reread repeatedly!) This was a lovely romance between two wounded souls. Jonus had seen too much death and ugliness in life, and Hannah had been terrorized as a child by a madman. Together, with tenderness, honesty, and scorching hot passion, they overcome their difficulties together. I liked that the author didn’t make them magically healed just from marrying each other as so many romances do. I absolutely loved the proposal. Classic. I loved seeing Phineas and Eugenia again as well as their son Griffin. (Loved that name)! The insight into Lady Wallingham was also touching. There was a bit of mystery involved but it definitely took the backseat (as it should) to the romance and interaction with the other characters. Excellent addition to the series but can definitely be read as a stand-alone.

3.0 out of 5 starsUnderwhelmed

This was a sweet but pretty underwhelming farewell to a most outstanding series. I was eager for Jonas and Hannah's story because it promised to be full of angst and longing which is so much of my reader catnip. While the book started out strong with Hannah and Jonas longing for each other but each carrying enough baggage to fill an airplane hold, soon it devolved into a parade of couples from all the previous nine books. I liked seeing some of my favorites but it became too much when they all seemed to be playing the part of secondary characters. It took away from the main romance and the result was a hasty marriage with little explanation as to the motivation or the haste.

One of the things I loved about my favorites in the series like The Devil is a Marquess is that the relationship development was so well done. I actually got to see Chatham and Charlotte fall in love. In this case, I saw that Hannah and Jonas had a lot of sexual chemistry but I can't pinpoint when their attraction turned into love. They never seemed to talk to each other and learned things about the other from third parties which was so frustrating.

There was also a mystery that was part bittersweet and part convoluted and unnecessary. Recommended for those who have read the previous books but if you haven't do not start here as I feel this book doesn't stand alone. 3 stars.

« “Dragons need their treasure. Wolves need their moon.” »

It breaks my heart to have to say goodbye to all the fabulous characters created by Mrs Elisa Braden in her Rescued from Ruin series.
I came to love them all even the two men portrayed as vilains at the beginning of it.
If you love shy but strong and willful heroines and domineering men falling hard for their other half, this is the series for you.
In the previous book, we left Jonas and Hannah, heartbroken, unable to make their hopes come to life.
But it is without counting for a meddling friend and a scheming Lady whom will take their fate in their hands.
What a mess these two damaged souls will find themselves in, but such a sweet and fun-filled turmoil, with of course its dose of sorrows and grief.
With the manipulative Lady Wallingham involved, it is sure their road to their HEA will not be a slick and bland one.

What I love so much with Mrs Elisa Braden is she takes no prisoners, her characters despite their past and mistakes are strong willed, they might at time retreat but they never back off when facing an issue and here Hannah who is first presented as a broken woman, she is no wilting flower, she bends to the wind but does not break.
She tried and tries to be “normal”, but what is normalcy if it is to be bored.
Around her, she has everyday, proofs that all the women in her life are no ordinary beings, they all had to fight to be rewarded with love, their roads to their love was not slick.
So how I cheered when she decided to go out of her comfort zone to find her own deserved recompense.

« No man was more dangerous to her heart than Jonas Hawthorn. But no other man had seized her heart as his sole possession, either. »

At first Jonas was an enigma, a mystery to be solved. What lies beneath his mask, a wolf in hound’s clothing, a lone beast on the prowl. Ready to strike if needed.
His whole life, he has avoided to hang his heart in the balance, until her.
The Snow-Queen who awakens desires and needs he longs for but is afraid to experience.
Yet, when a shard of hope appears he is all set to engage his soul for the one woman who brightens his days and invades his nights.

« we are all damaged in one way or another. The ones who truly love us don’t judge us by our scars but by who we’ve become as a result.” »

Despite the pain and despair both suffered in the hands of the other, it was also a journey filled with affection and passion.
And lightened by their friends interferences and involvement.

(Oh my god, the scene with all the women giving advices of how to train a man to be a very obedient hound.)

« “Even when you feel silly about it. And tell him the truth, dearest. Trust is the soil. Love is the bloom.” »

One last thought before saying farewell to everyone.
Lady Wallingham has pervaded the life of so many characters during the narrating of these 12 stories with her sole existence and her correspondence, so this last foray in her epistolary exchanges closes the loop, sheds light on the extraordinary woman she is and the love she has received and given.

So, Bye to Annabelle and Robert, Victoria and Lucien, Jane and Harrison, Sarah and Colin, Charlotte and Benedict, Viola and James, Julia and Charles, Maureen and Henry, Augusta and Sebastian, Eugenia and Phineas, Julia and Charles, Hannah and Jonas, Lord and Lady Huxley and finally The fabulous and authoritarian Dowager Marchioness Of Wallingham and her hound Humphrey.

I was granted an advance copy by the author but also purchased my own copy. This is my true and unbiased opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Story

I’m thrilled with this author’s latest release, “A Kiss from a Rogue”. It’s brilliantly written and packed full of so many wonderful layers. A sweet and emotional love story of two wounded and lonely souls, Hannah and Jonas. And what better setting than a house party involving none other than Lady Wallingham herself, and attended by all those characters we’ve come to love in the Rescued from Ruin series.

New readers may wonder if this book can be read as a stand-alone, and yes, the writer does a marvelous job of introducing each and every guest to the party. But let me say, this will definitely pull the reader in and leave you with wanting all of the stories. I urge you to read them all!

The story...
It all began with an instant attraction, but she walked away. And though there was no hope, with him being so beneath her socially, the impact was felt and not easily shaken. And then years later, they meet again.

Hannah is a sweet and strong heroine who has overcome so much evil in her young life. She has built up emotional walls, finding it hard to trust and let others in. Jonas grew up surrounded by death as a young boy, and later as a soldier and then bow street runner. A fear grew within him that he was always the one who was left...alone.

As desire and stronger feelings grow, will Hannah and Jonas be able to open their hearts and learn to trust? Can they release the fear and memories of the past, and look to a future that involves each other? Will love be enough?

It was great to see all the caring people at the house party nurture and protect Hannah, and accept and encourage Jonas in his relationship with her. A reunion of our favorite RFR families, a bit of mystery and intrigue, and some revealing tidbits from Lady Wallingham’s past are artfully woven within this sweet, tender and very emotional love story.

What an awesome wrap up to this series, and though I’ll miss these beloved characters, I’m anxiously awaiting the start of the next!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fitting End

Having read all of the novels in the Rescued from Ruin series, I waited anxiously for the last, Hannah and Jonah's story. Ms. Braden did not disappoint. Like the others the setting is breathtakingly beautiful, the characters have such depth and strength, the plots well developed and flawless, and those moments of wit especially from the dragon herself make for an excellent read. I tried unsuccessfully to pace myself to make the story last, but once started I was pulled into the time period and taken on the journey of self discovery with the hero and the heroine.
If you haven't started this series, I encourage you to start at the beginning. You are in for a special treat from a gifted writer. I dare you not to want more and more which is why I anxiously wait for a new series promised by the author. I know she will take meticulous care to create another world for her readers to get lost in. Thank you, Elisa, and congratulations on these wonderful books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such Detail! So Exciting!

I enjoyed the depth of the book. There was so much detail into Hannah's past and pain. I was a little disappointed at how little detail was put into the actual reveal of Hannah's scars since so much thought was put into the remembrance of it... This was a wonderful read overall though and I can't wait to read the next book Elisa puts out. The back and forth between the 2 characters was fantastic too. They didn't jump into things which was great, so it made for a more enjoyable read. It could have been a little more steamy in certain areas but still well written. I did receive the copy as an ARC, but am happy to be able to read and review great books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Ending to a Wonderful Series

*SPOILER WARNINGS*

This was an eloquent and emotional story. It was a really beautiful end to the series. Both of the lead characters are fairly unique so it fit that their love story wasn't like any other I've read.

But this story isn't about two people falling in love. They were already in love. They just needed a little help getting to the finish line. It's more about two people learning how to trust each other, trust themselves and in Jonas's case learning to let others in.

Back when Hannah was introduced in Desperately Seeking a Scoundrel I wondered if Braden had future plans for her. As the series progressed we learned more about Hannah and she aged, I thought she might have been meant for John Huxley. I was wrong. I am happy I was wrong. Jonas is perfect for her.

I loved the callbacks to all the previous couples and nothing felt forced. All of the characters have ties to Lady Wallingham so it made sense for everyone to be at the party. I wish we had more scenes of Eugenia and Hannah or Hannah and the other ladies after the wedding but maybe then things would have felt forced. The scenes with Hannah and Lady Wallingham were emotional and wonderfully written.

I have loved the whole series so I am sad it's over but I think this was a perfect ending.

Elisa Braden is one of my favorite authors, and this book, and series, showcases exactly why that is so. Intelligently written, causing me to smile, sigh, sniffle, cringe, sigh, snort, sigh, stay up too late reading... In short, wonderful. Highly recommended.

I came from the start and stayed to the end and was never disappointed for even a moment in between. An eleven book series and I enjoyed every one. If you've not read any yet then lucky you.
From the moment Hannah was introduced ((don't quite remember in which book) I've held my breath, looked away and crossed my fingers for her. And now she gets her much deserved HEA with Jonas who would literally die for her if he had to. Ms. Braden is truly at the top of her craft as her writing flows naturally and takes your emotions from tears to a sigh, a slight quirking of the lips to full on laughter. I am tho a bit sad as this is the end of the series. @trueelisabraden I await Kate.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I first started reading Elisa Braden’s books about two years ago and quickly read all of them that had been published and was quite delighted with them. Since then I’ve eagerly awaited each new release and not been disappointed with any of them. This series was a very enjoyable read with great characters and an engaging story. A Kiss from a Rogue is no different. Hannah and Jonas are characters we had been introduced to in the previous book and I was so happy to see their story unfold! Wonderful conclusion to the Rescued from Ruin series and I can’t wait to read the next series Elisa Braden has in store for us!

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific end to a truly outstanding series

I am giving this 5 stars as someone who has read the whole series. As a stand-alone I would give it 4, only because it is the final book in the series and many characters from previous books make an appearance so if you haven't read the previous stories you would miss out on some of the magic. As a finale it is a wonderful end to an outstanding series. If you enjoy Regency Romance and haven't read this series please start with Book 1 (immediately :-)). You will not be disappointed-- the plots are well-though out, the sex is steamy and the characters are well rounded and nuanced, and stick with you long after the last page is read. *Disclaimer* I was given an ARC of this book to review, but forgot that I'd pre-ordered it so ended up paying anyway... and I didn't mind. It's that good.
