Wow...4 great books for this price and I couldn't resist. What a super-cool boxset. I have been into this author's work since he started the GoneGod World series and it is great to see these now available together. Tons of great value here! If you are new to the series, get the boxset and start working your way through these books. You'll be hooked before you are done the first one.
"Mythology, satire, and brutal honesty. Vance delivers a knockout punch of fun and fearlessness in every last one of his books. Not only does he make you laugh, but he also makes you think. That's a rare combination that few authors ever achieve, and Vance does it splendidly." — John P. Logsdon, author of the Paranormal Police Department series.
What is in this boxset? The Paradise Lost Boxed Set includes the following novel:
•GoneGod World (Keep Evolving - Book 1) •Keep Evolving (Keep Evolving - Book 2) •CrystalDreams (Keep Evolving - Book 3) •Penemue's Inferno (Keep Evolving - Book 4)
Over 1800+ pages of magic, mischief, and mayhem fill this fantastic urban fantasy boxed set! What I like about this series is the imagination behind all of the creatures and GoneGod World. RE Vance has really created a unique world that draws you in...and keeps you there until the end. But that is just the beginning...the stories hold you over the cliff for a while before letting go, and then you are whisked down into the world of the GoneGod Paradise.
Warning: Read at your own risk. These stories could be addictive!
Jean-Luc is an extraordinary character. You'll be hooked from the start! Paradise Lot is where the most diverse group of beings have learned to mostly co-exist. If you love Urban Fantasy, mythology, supernatural and paranormal beings, as well as characters that have depth, are complex and unique, and evolve then you will not be disappointed. The addition of Penemue's Inferno in this box set is killer! For anyone that has read the books when they first released, trust me when I say that you will absolutely NEED to read this story.
The entire GoneGods Series, from any perspective, is a lot of fun to read. I like learning about other religions, mythologies, and Others. I enjoy this perspective because it's that of an adult with real problems like paying bills (as opposed to the perspective of vampire turned wealthy college student Kat in the Mortality Bites/Mortality Bound series), losing his wife, and all the things that adulthood brings. The character of Jean is very unique and he's a great protagonist! Wish there was more ro read already... could make a good TV series lol
This box set is such a unique collection of novels. Ramy Vance has come up with a totally engrossing storyline in Paradise Lost. It's set in a world that the gods have abandoned, leaving the rest to clean up the mess. Some cope, some do not. The story is dry (my kind of humour), compelling and different to anything I've read before. I would definitely recommend this, 4 novels for 0.99, it's a bargain and real good fun to read. I've read Part 1 but felt I had to post a thank you review, I now have the opportunity to read from start to finish. I'll update this review when I've completed the plot, but the reason for reviewing now is to say, get the box set now while you can, the opportunity won't be here for long. This is a bargain.
Not a dull moment in these stories! The humor, the despair, the very real feels of the tragedies and light-hearted moments taking place in Paradise Lot, all keep the stories riveting and moving along. I LOVED IT ALL! Can't wait to read the rest that will follow as I'm now fully invested in the plight and hopefully a future redemption of the Others, either by their God's or their eventual acceptance by most humans. Great story!
I gave this boxset 4 stars because the spelling errors and grammatical errors were a bit much.
I bought this set because it was one heck of a great deal. I'd read all but the last book and was chompin at the bit to read Penemue's Inferno. I was not disappointed, every book in this series and the other series by Ramy Vance is hilarious and has a cast of characters I would totally hang out with if I could. While I always liked Jean Luc, Bella Judith et all, I will totally admit that Penemue has been my secret fave. So, One Click this box set and have a bottle fo Drambuie set aside for book 4 =)
These books are immensely entertaining. I loved the interesting world, the great characters and the snarky humor.
There were, however, a few things I didn't like as much. One was a bit too much "narrative causality": I sometimes felt that how the world works is somewhat arbitrary, rules keep changing to pave the way for the plot.
Another problem I had that Book 4 ends very abruptly, leaving you hanging with the thought "Yeah, and what happens after...?" (This really goes for Books 1 to 3 as well, but since I read them one after the other, it wasn't as apparent.) Come on, the series needs a winding down, it needs to tie off loose ends, so that the reader has some time to say goodbye to those well-loved characters.
And my final gripe: it needs proofreading. Badly. Lots of typos.
Really liked that Jean was a normal guy. Not drop dead gorgeous, not over the top strong or athletic but a good soul who did terrible bad things. He was conflicted and somehow ends up doing right and loving completely. He really shouldn’t have been a hero. He was not great but he does grab ahold of you and you want to keep reading to know what happens. The book has many layers of gray. Great evolution of characters.
It was hard at first for me to get into the book, as it refers to a lot of the main characters past and you don't start getting into that till you get further in. Now that I've finished the box series though I will be keeping my eyes open for the next as I'm truly curious to see how everything will play out for Jean. Wonderful references to the "fairy tales" and supernatural.
This was a shot-in-the-dark purchase. A boxed set of the unknown and I hit the jackpot. What a brilliant, creative, imaginative and genius storyteller. Every page was a revelation of twists and turns. Serious but with biting humor throughout. Loved it!
