How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsIf you like light hearted comedy in a science fiction setting
Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2020
I love this series.

When the world is too crazy to take I can dive in with Bob and Nikki and the rest for a little while and just relax. Come for the banter, stay for the puns!

I just finished Book 10 and needed a bigger fix and decided on a reread, then realized I hadn’t left a review for this one. So here we are
Earth Boy encounters off world girl stranded with engine trouble. He repairs her ship and high jinx ensue. Chili is made. Dogs are rescued along with more off worlders. Pop Culture references and puns.

I hope the author has as much fun writing these as I do reading them so they KEEP WRITING MORE please.

2.0 out of 5 starsThere's only one character in the book
Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2020
... sure, there are multiple people mentioned, by name even, and they all interact, but they are all the same character. A Good Ol Boy who Gets Things Done and has a Snappy Comeback for everything. In fact, about 80% of the book is actually written in Snappy Comeback with multiple (identical) characters (which is being very generous with that term) slinging them around like so many frisbees. As other reviews have mentioned there is absolutely no character description provided at all. The book meanders forward to it's end studded with only the barest bits of plot. Other than all the Snappy Combacks, the rest is Getting Things Done, a tiny conflict, and the end, thank goodness.

If you LIKE Good Old Boys and their Snappy Comebacks, then boy howdy are you in the right place. Chances are they will just annoy you like they did me. Not Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, but way too rushed

I really like the story, the characters, and the interplay. My only complaint (and it really drove me nuts, almost tossed the book once or twice) is that what should be a 6-12 month story, happens in about a week and a half (really I think beginning to end is about three weeks, but half of that is glossed over as being on a drunken stupor over how sad Bob is that Nikki left).

We find the girl, and fix her ride in a snap, immediately save the pink the next day, she leaves, comes back a couple weeks later and bam we’re in business is minutes, but a new place in a day, get up and running with costumers before we even get the keys, find the pirates and hunt them down that night, find the geezer and solve the century old riddle in an afternoon, then top it all off with a perfectly executed ambush to start the week. Also, the linchpin of the story, the pirate attack, why did the pirates try to axe Lyla? That is never even speculated, just, “this was done on purpose!” “Somebody tried to kill you.” No motive, no reason as the why a reporter would be targeted, no freak out over how she almost died and someone is trying to kill her, no, w”We should call the police!(or patrol or whatever that are called)” just “pirates did it! Let’s hunt them down!”

Where is the build up? The world building, the character development, the motive, the suspense? It’s like you had all these great ideas, wrote each piece down, and stuffed them in a book. Definitely needs a rewrite. There isn’t even any reasonable response time for the patrol, that just instantly teleport there, even though we know help is at least several hours away (due to a medical emergency from earlier, and a kid not being able to get to a hospital in time because he would bleed out, and yet it still taking nearly an hour before he gets to close primitive help)

3.0 out of 5 stars This is a hoot

What would you do if you opened your garage door and found an attractive girl in your space, repairing her flying saucer? Well, Bob is a can-do sort of guy and just pitched right in and helped her fix her ride. And yes, she is a human, or humanish, human like? she is human enough to be totally compatible with him, as they find out later on.
While the story cannot be taken seriously-goodness, made up, not true stuff? It is great fun to read. Bob is hard working, full of stick-to-it-ness, and never seems to have a sour moment. Nicky, the alien girl, appreciates Bob for his good attitude toward everything in general and difficult and dangerous things in particular.
This is the first of a series of books about Bob and Nicky. They are light and fun and just the thing to read instead of watching TV.
If you want a good, entertaining tale to relax with, (and who doesn't) try this. Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2020

I wanted to like this book, it had all the things i like in a scifi, and i love dialogue more than walls of descriptions, but there was just something off about this one. Most of the characters had very little descriptions and even the gadgets or saucer were not described in any way. We don't even know what bob or nikki look like or what clothes they are wearing it seems. In addition the romance between the 2 MC's seems very rushed and without reason, they barely ask each other questions or even know much about the other.

Over all, im really hoping the subsequent books are better but i am very hesitant to waste money on them even though i know id enjoy them if they were improved more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story...poor formatting
Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2020

Decent story line, character development and it only makes one roll one eye with some of the things we just have to accept. However, there isn't any formatting - you know, things like chapters, scene breaks...paragraphs. I really would have liked to 4 star it but no formatting makes one work a bit to hard to know what's up.

premise for story was good. Dialogue was a bit much. Trying to make a joke out of every line will keep me from reading anymore by this author. Caveman and space cadet over and over. Who talks like this. Nobody I've ever met.

Liked the first third, had a lot of potential. The characters, to me, acted like a bunch of juvenile teenagers with hormones out of control, so I lost interest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than I initially thought

When I started, I didn't think I was going to like this book because there was so much dialog. That being said, the more I read it the more I enjoyed it. Light-hearted and funny, a good read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I hoped

I wanted to like this more than I ended up doing. It started out funny enough, particularly the dialog, but that quickly devolved into a repetitive shtick. Overall it ended up being a bit too pulpy for me: thin on plot, everything the protagonists touch turns to gold, that sort of thing. At no point was there any real sense of danger, conflict or excitement in the story. Still, I'll read the next one and sew if it gets and better.
