5.0 out of 5 starsLucy Garrett - Just the Latest in a Series of Terrific Novels By R. O. Lane
Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2019
R. O. Lane is one of my favorite western writers. I’ve purchased all of his novels to date and have read all of them several times. I look forward to each new book and set aside some time to read and enjoy each one. His books have some romance in them and involve admirable characters that do what’s right.

His latest is “Lucy Garrett,” which is something of a departure from his previous books in that the protagonist is a heroine. However, the book is just as good as his previous releases. I can’t even begin to express the huge amount of enjoyment I derive from reading his books. He and C. J. Petit are two of my favorites and I’m always looking for their new releases every month.

R. O. Lane’s books started at $.99 for most of his releases, which I read under the Kindle Unlimited selections, but quickly purchased them as I started reading them. The last few have been priced at $2.99, but I’ve bought them anyway because they are well worth it. I now just buy them as I see them, although they are still offered under Kindle Unlimited. They are keepers and I prefer to own them versus borrowing. I really loved “Hank,” the previous release before “Lucy Garrett,” and “Saving Muffin,” one of his earlier books. Now that I’m up-to-date on all his books. I really look forward to the next one. He just doesn’t disappoint and his books are better than ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars This story is told from a lady's point of view.

I have read 24 of R.O. Lane's books. The fun thing about reading him is that there is no wasted time. Constant action of some type. If it takes a stage coach three days to go from point A to B, it doesn't fill three pages doing so. Everyone in the story is well described and you remember who they are. This story is told by Lucy Garrett and the search for a gold mine somewhere. Oh, no! Not another gold mine story.....exactly right...it is not another gold mine story. Lots of history interwoven with the plot which I like, some close calls, some pay-back and a fun ending. What more could you want?
I've just downloaded Mariposa to my Kindel. This is sort of an addendum...I've not reviewed all of the R.O. Lane books I have read. The reason is they are all excellent stories told in a manner that keeps you involved. I REALLY like westerns and those that I would like to see more of are Will Fain - U.S. Marshal, and perhaps the best of his that I read was The Gambler and the Orphans. That was a perfect story as far as I am concerned. Having said that, I've just started Mariposa....and it's a mover! - Joe.

VINE VOICE
5.0 out of 5 stars Another Intriguing Old Western Tale by a Phenomenal Writer! Enjoy!
Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2021

I absolutely love R O Lane’s books. They are action-packed fast-paced old western tales with heart warming stories that are quick and short reads that leave me completely satisfied.

This one was no exception. Lane develops his characters and storyline in a manner that is spellbinding. This was a one day read for me because I just could not put it down.

Lucy Garret was a kind sole. She took care of a dying banker until his dying days. She had no idea that he was wealthy beyond her imagination and had no idea that he would leave all of his wealth to her.

As she traveled to see the properties left to her she met a man, Macon Braden, that she knew immediately was the person she dreamed about all of her life.

Little did she know that this man was diagnosed with stomach cancer and had determined that he would live out the rest of his life alone. As the two traveled together, Lucy quickly learned that Macon was one heck of a man who knew how to use his colt revolver as well as his Winchester and that there were people who wanted to see him dead.

The Maxwell Land Grant Company was a powerful organization who was cheating people out of their land and when Macon stood up to them and purchased 15,000 of their acres and had them protected through his lawyers and certified with the proper authorities, the grant company used all their power to kill him and reclaim the property. Rumor had it that there was gold on that land that a catholic priest had hidden in a cave that others could not find.

As killers perused Macon, he killed most of them; however, he was severely wounded in an unexpected encounter and Lucy killed the assassin before he could kill her love interest.

Nevertheless, Maxwell’s company hired an assassin to kill both Macon and Lucy who were now married and neither discovered that they were both millionaires until after they were married.

How long will this marriage last? Will Macon die young from his cancer? Will these two love birds ever have a family of their own?

You will have to read this intriguing tale to find that out, but I guarantee that this book will pass so quickly that you will not believe that 182-pages can pass so fast.

This is the 11th western by R O Lane that I have read in the past 31 days and I can hardly wait to order and read his next kindle book.

I recommend this old Western tale to family, friends, and others who enjoy this genre and love a compelling tale that is very entertaining and a pleasure to read!

Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful in simplified western romance
Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2020

Its good but very simplistic when planning to make choices with the available options. Nothing seems to bring reality or consequences to certain truths. Like why a wealthy woman be traveling alone and in places where most men avoid? Or why not start hiring people when you need a bodyguard, doctor, home builder, home housetaker, better lawyer team, surveyors, and whomever when owning two large properties. Dealing with dangerous lumbermen, gunmen, silent assailants, crooked lawyers while dealing with a gut bullet wound. As I said a good read but not very realistic and seemed written towards couples or lovers in the telling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another R.O. Lane Classic Wetern
Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2019

There is hardly a need to write a review as A.P. Duenas has pretty much said everything I would have. Having grown up with Louis L'Amour I was looking for a "deeper," more personable story. R.O. Lane and C.J. Petit really fill the void. Some times I think I would love them to right a 700 page epic; but, then I know I could not put it down.

Lucy Garrett was one of my favorites. Of course one could see it as a "fairytale" story; but who cares. R.O. Lane knows how to develop a story line and build on it, while keeping the story moving. Another Classic.

This is very nicely written book. It moves along quickly has plenty of action. Has a good mystery. Nothing is so drawn out that it becomes tedious. All the characters are intertwined to keep the reader wondering were the next twist will appear. Lucy show compassion when needed but tough as nails when called for. This was a very enjoyable book. Good work Mr. Lane.☺

4.0 out of 5 stars Another clever story by R O Lane

Mostly RO lane writes sort of Hallmark westerns. There is usually a bunch of heaving bosoms and ripping bodices. Of course the references are subtle. This was a good imaginative creative story with some new twists that the other 20 or so R O Lane books I have read did not have.
I am always impressed with the twists and turns and new circumstances that Lane can put in his books one after another. This was probably 1 of my more favorite books. Still I wonder if all of the love making is necessary.

I enjoyed this book immensely!! Lucy is a smart and gutsy woman who knows what she wants!! She wanted Macon Bradeen, and she went after him and got him! They worked together to destroy murderers and dirty politicians. She had inherited land and a map of a gold mine located on it. After recovering the gold they set up a trust to help settlers who were being ousted from their land. They were married forty two years and raised a large family on their ranch. Great book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A golden romance without being mushy....

This was as good a story as any in my 250 book western collection. R.O. Lane "bases" his books on historical, verifiable facts. Every Lane book is riveting - you will lose track of time while reading these stories of love - yes, romance - yes, right overcoming wrong of course. From first sentence to last you ARE a part of the story... a spectator in the sidelines, witnessing as the drama unfolds, reaching for your sidearm to help the hero.
You'll not be disappointed!
