4.0 out of 5 starsHighly enjoyable cozy mystery!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 24, 2019
This is the 2nd book in the Victorian Village Mysteries series and it was very enjoyable! The character development continues to grow from the first book and the plot is becoming more intricate. Kate, the main character, is trying to restore the town back to its original glory when she stumbles upon a dead body....again. Her luck seems to be running out and she’s faced with the constant worry of who she can trust. This could be a stand alone book but you wouldn’t be able to go back and read the first in the series without the mystery being spoiled. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy the cozy mystery genre!

3.0 out of 5 starsNot the authors best work
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 13, 2021
I enjoyed the first book in this series enough to dive into this one. I’m sorry to say I was rather disappointed. There was a redundancy that was hard to overcome. I really didn’t understand the motive and means for the murder, how did the killer enter the building? It was just not believable for me and I almost quit the book halfway through, which I rarely do.
The title apparently has baffled some, but it’s “ the KILLER in the carriage house” not the murder, and yes, there is a carriage house behind the mansion.

1.0 out of 5 stars Authors ghostwriter is terrible!

The author died and I am assuming this is being done by a ghostwriter. The books are terrible! So many glaring continuity issues to list. Don’t bother.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not really a mystery

This book isn't really a mystery. It's not even really a book as we know it with well drawn characters and plot development and introspection. Due to this problems and boring repetition, it is impossible to sustain any interest in the mystery itself. The first book in the series had just enough promise to make me purchase this one, but I was deceived; nothing happens here.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!

Disappointed! Love her County Cork series, but this book is very slow moving.
I'm not particularly interested in the murder victim at this point being on page 161 ( out of 270 ). So I've been skipping forward. So I'll finish it soon, just to have an ending.
Maybe it'll end with a bang....but 😟

Spooky
1.0 out of 5 stars Not Close to Being Her Best Book
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 19, 2020
I am a fan of Sheila Connolly but the last two books of her that I have read have been horrible. I thought “Seeds of Deception” from her Orchard series was bad at least I finished that one. I could not finish this one. Same dialogue between the two ladies over and over…”should they go look at the factory? Yes, well no, maybe if we have time”. Time? Time is all they have. She talks about how small the town is but it takes them all day to walk it? This book is padded with the same dialogue over and over to make it longer. On top of that this is the second book in the series and right from the start they tell you who the murder victim & the murderer was in the first book so if you pick this one up first there is absolutely no reason to go back and read the first one as they tell that story in this book. The murder is definitely secondary in this book and the murderer is pretty obvious. I will not be reading any more books in this series . Honestly not only is the premise unrealistic the characters are not interesting. I am just happy I got this from library and did not spend any money on it.

1.0 out of 5 stars beyond boring
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 15, 2019
The museum series was one of my favorites until Dead End Street, the most boring book I had read. Until this one. Kate is hard to warm up to, the other characters are cardboard. The town sounds dreary and beat down and Kate's plans unrealistic. I didn't try to finish this one after not being able to get into it by chapter six. Happily I got it from the library.

I doubt that I will be reading anymore from this author.

1.0 out of 5 stars I couldn’t finish this book too dull
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 1, 2019
The dialogue is stilted and plodding, never ending. The plot is driven only by conversation of characters, which is strained, forced, and contrived. Dull and plodding scenes.

I normally love Sheila Connolly books but is one was a disappointment. There was a lot of padding about indexing and reviewing documents and it felt as if the murder was just included to allow the book to be classed as a mystery. It was obvious who the killer was and there was very little detail about the investigation. I think I may give this series a miss in future.
