I adore the series ‘What makes a ... a ...’ by Andi Cann. ‘What makes a reptile a reptile’ is no exception to that.
In this book children learn how to know if the creature they are looking at is a reptile or not. The important questions are scales / cold blooded / four legs / is it an animal / lays it eggs? The fact that these questions come in a repetitive way is ideal for kids to learn and have fun at the same time.
As an author-photographer of picture books with photographic illustrations myself, you can understand having an extra interest in the photos of the book. And let me tell you, I LOVE the photographs in this book, in fact, in Andi Cann’s series of ‘What makes...’ books.
What kind of animal is a snake? A snake is a reptile. What kind of animals are reptiles. When he opened the magic book it showed him a horn. He wants to know what a snake and a horn have in common. Book says, "Keratin.". A reptile is the only animal who has keratin in his skin. Reptiles also lay eggs and have four legs. Why is a snake a reptile. It has no legs. You get to listen/read to get rid of any confusion
