ALL of the books in the Four Horsemen Universe are good, but I have to say - Redacted Affairs was a real hoot. Greatly enjoyed the comraderie in the book and the interplay between the characters. You will love the characters in this book. Nicely done. I should point out that while it seems to diverge from the main storyline, ALL The Four Horsemen Universe books fit together. They also all tie together the theme on why humans, and their allies, will eventually prevail in the end.

Good book broken by bad character building and contrived plot elements

This book has a lot going for it. But flaws in the character building and plot turned this 5 star book into 2 stars.

1. All of the characters are human. Sure, the author tells us that there's a weasel type, and a wolf/bear type, and a tiger type. But they don't sound alien. They don't think alien. They don't act alien. I'm promised aliens, and the author does not deliver.

2. Several plot elements feel very contrived. Need local intel? Ok, here are some relatives for you to hook up with who happen to be on the planet. The armor suits need repairs? Ok, here's a pirate ship to capture that just so happens to have the armor parts you need.

Events have lead to this point. Revenge has made one disgraced former enforcer, plan and set into motion things to destroy his former guild with special emphasis on hurting and killing certain individuals from that guild. His hate knows no bounds as he intends to cause irreparable damage to several guilds and the Galactic Union in his quest. This is part of the story to stop this evil being and discover more of his plans and disrupt them along the way. I can't wait for more of this story to unfold in upcoming novels. The authors did an excellent job of developing the story and definitely setting the stage for even more action and intrigue to follow. You really need to read the Peacemaker novels in the 4HU to really appreciate and fully understand what's taking place in this novel and events tied into it. You will be doing yourself a favor. Those Peacemaker novels ? Peacemaker, Honor The Threat, Stand Or Fall, and Death Angel. Kevin Ikenberry wrote those and you will enjoy those as well. Kevin Steverson wrote the Salvage Title trilogy, those are a lot of fun as well.

I LOVE the Caspers, awesome war machines, and of course I understand the limitations of materials, ceramic, composites, etc.

EVERYTHING has it's failure point.

BUT!

To have an organic being, no matter how strong and durable, peel apart Mark 7 Casper armour like tin foil, that I cannot accept.

Caspers MUST be made more durable than that, able to resist any portable fire power, knives, claws, etc.

Love the storyline thread.. was hoping to get more iceman progress, but they are doing a great job keeping that secretive.. Can't wait to see where this ends up.. (trying not to put spoilers).. Starting to paint the picture, but thread can be read separate from the main line (though more appreciation if you follow the full story w/ all the arcs and sub stories). Not a 'War' Space Battle, more setting the stage for drama and mystery / investigation.
