The scary illustrations might just make kids more frightened than they already are

“Are You Scared?” is a children’s book about little Susie who is frightened as she goes to the village to buy ingredients for baking a cake. The girl has to pass dark forests, scary fields and wide grasslands with angry wolves and fire spying dragons.
The truth is, the illustrations in the book are indeed scary. The frightening illustrations just might trigger a young reader’s fears instead of alleviating them. I think if the book’s purpose who to help young children overcome their fear of imaginary ghosts and monsters around them, it should have focused more on debunking little Susie’s wild imagination.
Too little was said about how Susie overcame her fear. In my opinion, this book would have been more helpful if it was a lift-the-flap book revealing the actual objects in their non-threatening manner so that kids can learn that what they may imagine to be scary actually really isn’t.
