Jas is a brown-skinned woman on a planet filled with white supremacists. Sera is a brown-skinned woman on a disaster ship that crash lands on a planet of white supremacists. Jas can talk to plants, Sera has tech, and the main plant on the planet is sentient and helps the colonists survive in repayment for their tending.
This is a very short little novella. The author set up an intriguing world but we didn't get any time to play in it or explore before the plot came to its conclusion. The characters were well introduced and easy to empathize with, and I was set for the pairing from the start. The sci fi landscape also had my full attention. Unfortunately everything just moved too quickly, the third act felt empty without more worldbuilding.
This is a great start to a full novel, and I would be happy to revisit this world in a longer form. I appreciated the call out to diverse genders and Earth's multiculturalism, and think there is a large universe here that definitely needs exploring. The tech, in particular, is very well done.
