This is a second book in the series but it can be easily read without reading book one. But reading “Vine Witch” first could make reading “The Glamourist” more enjoyable. Also, the current story is complete so one does not need to wait for next book to find out what happened.
The main protagonists are; vine witch Elena and her friend Yvette. They were both introduced in the first book but the setting of the current story is very different. Action takes place in the city where “mortal” humans and witches coexisted for centuries. The complex set of rules guides this peaceful coexistence. Both young women have to rediscover who they really are and whom they may trust. I do not want to give any spoilers so I will just say that, in addition to different kinds of witches. some other magic creatures will make an appearance.
It is a lightly written fairy-tail fantasy story that I enjoyed very much and that reminded me a little bit of “Harry Potter”. The world of magic is very well build and logical in its rules, and characters, both normal and enchanted, are interesting. This is the kind of story that can be shared by adults with teenage children with equal pleasure. Enjoy.
