How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsIntriguing and fun

I got this book in a giveaway at some point and have just finished it. Not having read the others, I can say that it's very good on its own. The characters are great, and there's also love, lust for power, desire for independence, adventure and action, space travel and technology - the story interweaves them all and keeps you turning the pages.

3.0 out of 5 starsThree non-humans work to rescue a starship - 3 stars
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on February 17, 2020
A sex 'bot (6T9), a wolf-human (Volka) and a werfle (Carl Sagen) bring an unlikely combination of skills to rescue a trapped sentient starship (Sundancer) trapped under ice.

In a world distant from Earth, the story starts slowly and builds slowly. We meet family, prejudice and hate/fear of artificial intelligence.

Ethernet is the term for mind-to-mind communication for sentient beings who cannot read minds but choose to communicate privately without voices.

Creative interesting concepts but took too long to get my interest. I will pass on the follow-on novel in the series, Darkness Rising, to continue the adventure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feelings and Reason
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on February 24, 2021

This is an unusual story about an escape from physical enslavement to complete freedom. The question raised is emotion serving reason or reason serving emotion. It is a question impossible to answer but Starship Waking says it can be answered. The starship operates on emotion alone. Others, such as slavers for military, work on reason to shape their emotions., resulting in hatred, bigotry, and fear. Reason is in service to emotion. You want to do something, evaluate if that want is reasonable, and then reason on a way to fulfil that emotion. I do not understand how one cannot work without the other. A spaceship that works only on feelings is operating on adjectives. I have a good feeling. Happy to fly. Sad to be in cave. Those may be valuable emotions (adjectives) but to devise a plan without reason (nouns and verbs) is impossible. We must fight to be free so that we are happy / I'll be happy when I am free so I will fight. Here, fighting is in service to happiness. But in truth, you must have both. It's a team effort. In many ways this story is just weird. Sometimes the puns get in the way than enhance, (6T9). But it does illustrate that reason (facts) are not controlled by emotion (feelings) . Predicting that you will be happy if you act one way can and should be overcome when reason (facts) say otherwise. An example is Vilka's former lover feeling happier to kill her than help her. His feelings have been enslaved by his reason.

They are the new underclass for the Luddecuans and used, tortured and abused as the thinkers and AI's. Unfortunately the terror and nightmares never stop hough thec3 main characters end up on Earth in a society where every being is free with rights. But thr good news only lasts a little while until a deeper more destructive evil returns from millions of years ago to frighten people, animals and the strongest new artificial intelligence c and their alien beginnings..

4.0 out of 5 stars Starship Waking is a great story with a too abbreviated conclusion
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on January 5, 2020

Starship Waking by C. Gockel shows considerable imagination in the nature of her characters in this sequel which she develops to the point that you think you know their intimate thoughts and what drives their actions. The plot is reasonable but the motivation to rescue an AI starship turns out to be psychological rather than a reality. I might have given this sequel 5 stars except that as a reader, I felt short-changed by the abbreviated ending in which very little is revealed about the starship that the characters have endured so much to rescue. Aside from its invulnerability, sentinence, and ability to jump around the galaxy, we are not given any info on its origin, age, creators, history, etc. "The One" is also not given any treatment by the author in explaining what it is, association with the starship, etc. Perhaps I have to read the next book in the sequence to get these insights, but I feel we should have had more in this one given the title of the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another delicious adventure

Our favourite s-bot is back. 6T9 is stuck on a small, albeit luxuriously appointed asteroid when he is commandeered into rescuing a millenia old space ship. This is the fourth book in the Archangel down universe and is not per se a sequel in the series but rather the beginning of a new story arc. I love everything written by the author and this book is no exception. Introducing new characters and a new story line it promises to be the start of a new adventure. The only problem now is the wait for the next installment.

4.0 out of 5 stars The four books of the Archangel Project

The four books were a very good read. Well worth the time. I felt kind of disappointed though at the 100 year jump from book three and book four. Too much happened in between and I lost track of Noa until the end of the book. She played such an important role in the series that the conversion should have been done better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Series

Starship Waking is the fourth book in the Archangel Project series. It can be read as a standalone book but you might find things somewhat confusing. It does further along the series storyline as well as introduce new characters.
