What happened to my formerly favorite author"

I generally cannot wait for a new Mary Kay Andrews book. I don't have much time to read right now so I purchased the CD version and listen to it as I drive. When I love a book, I find reasons to drive even more. This is my first huge MKA disappointment. The recording is good, and the writing, is ok, however, this book is totally without the sass, charm, and enjoyable characters I have come to enjoy since first reading Savannah Blues and have continued to enjoy in her following books. Listening to this book left me wondering if she took an old unfinished manuscript, pre-2002 when she became MKA and finished it? I stayed with the book because I was curious about some of the minor characters but had a very hard time with the romance and caring about any of the characters. Would be interesting to know what the Romance Writers of America thought of this book. Cannot believe it fits in this genre, mystery maybe, but not romance. Hope MKA finds her way back to the body, heart, and head of Kathy Hogan Trocheck.
