This the first book I've read by Ben Wolf, and am now hooked on the series as interesting characters combined with great adventures abound. The character development flows nicely and keeps the reader engaged. Each of the four characters come from different backgrounds, but has relatable elements. Plot twists were greatly enjoyable, and I didn't see them coming which was a huge bonus. Writing is smooth, and keeps moving the story forward without a dull moment. Excited to see how the four character's journeys bring them together in the next book.
A very nice (well not really nice but nasty) introduction to our cast of Mercenaries. Just slipped into this book like a favorite pair of house shoes, comfortable and familiar. Lots of plot turns and action, action, action to make the book read fast and fun. Will now go onto the rest of the series because my interest has been peaked.
I started Ben's writing in Blood Mercenaries with this book. I cannot imagine doing so without these elements as he provides excellent introduction to the main characters. Start here and read the full works, as Ben presents a fascinating world and perspective that plays with several tropes.
The independent origin stories of these men were well crafted, and drew me in quickly. Just as I got caught up in the pivotal ending of each man's story, I was left on a cliff. A cliff from which the view of their stories could go anywhere. Looking forward to their exploits together
An amazing set of origin stories of four mercenaries from very different parts of life, this collection of novellas with have you hooked from start to finish! I definitely recommend it if you're looking to get into a new fantasy series.
The beginning of the blood mercenaries series sucked me in very quickly. Well-rounded characters who were relatable, great storylines, and good pacing with some suspense had me buying the three books in the series as soon as I finished this one. Thoroughly enjoyable.
This book was recommended to me by a co-worker, so I gave it a shot. I really likes it, the stories drew me in and I always wanted to know what was going to happen next, I will read the rest of the series.
I read books 1 & 2 first (Crimson Flame & Path of Shadows.) so I started to read this one while I was waiting for book 3 (Frostbane) to come out. You don't have to read this one first but it goes into more detail on the four characters and ties into books 1&2 really well. All 4 stories of each characters was a wonderful and enjoyable story. A well written and very exciting read. Don't miss out. Enjoy
