How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat techno sci-fi thriller
Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2021
Gets better with each book. If you like your technology to be super cool sci-fi with cutting edge ideas you’re going to love this series. Character development is solid and dialogue is not ridiculous ramboesque posturing. Clean solid fun.

3.0 out of 5 starsToo much social justice, not enough story
Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2020
The first two books in this series were very entertaining. In this third installment, the author went too deep into social justice issues and ignored the main story too often.

The main character is a highly decorated combat aviator, most of his crew are also combat vets. It is highly unlikely that people of this caliber would abandon the country that they fought and bled for so easily and quickly for climate change, economic distribution of wealth, carbon footprint, etc. They even renounced their citizenship!

On the mission to the asteroid belt, it was led by a 13 years old, and had a crew of 10 years old twins, and a single adult. The 13 years old is at least highly intelligent and capable, and the adult was along for brawn, but the 10 year old twins? They served no purpose to the mission other than to say that the crew was all female.

A good story in theory, but way too much focus on liberalism and social justice. A decent read if you have unlimited, but not worth it of you have to buy it.

The premise of the story is good I enjoyed it. What I do not enjoy is the author's unrealistic depiction of peoples cultures and their economies. He does not seem to understand that the third world is the third world not because the first and second world is stealing their resources. But is the third world because their culture is s#!+.

In the first book he'll make a part of his story where sex slavery is quite prevalent in the Middle East and exist because of the culture. The so-called good Muslim working for the child trafficker of sex slaves. Was pointed out quite clearly in the first book. And yet here in the third book he's talking about how all of their problems and issues are due to economic woes and hardships. He'll point out political corruption in the first book and in the third book talk about how it's all about resource management. The author himself is not consistent in his writing. He cannot seem to keep his story points clear. This is the thing I dislike most about his story it's inconsistency in keeping on topic.

2.0 out of 5 stars A good story lost in minutia

The story starts reasonably well in the first book with some exiting parts dealing with a kidnapping. The plot building is a good idea but gets completely buried in way too many details.
Explaining all the details of manufacturing, staffing, etc is boring.
It is interesting to have characters with unique, even larger than life qualities but... I'll be blunt. A 13 year old arrogant, super genius effective!y leading the effort; being better than everyone at virtually everything is stupid.
I stuck it out for three books hoping things would pick up but was disappointed. It might have been compelling if all three books were condensed into half a book. Your beta readers failed you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable series with a few weaknesses

Let me begin by saying I like the book and find the series very readable. I will continue to read them as they come out. The are light escapist science fiction. I enjoy the characters and am pleased that at this point in the series the characters are trying to make the world a better place for everyone rather than engaging in some endless dystopian war with aliens. (That might come up later in the series.)

Ok, now a few things that just irritate me. Good tech apparently can solve all the world's problems, or at least Marc, Catie and their friends are trying. Medicine is just easy with nanobots. It must be nice.

They brought a few people in as guards and support staff in book one. Basically all of them are now functioning as very high level project managers for a complex international organization. Who knew that most any ground-pounding grunt could manage a multinational corporation? I guess you just need to hire the right people.

Let's build a space station! Apparently the author does not know any amateur astronomers. Marc and friends put it up in space in the same orbit as the ISS but on the other side of the planet, and no one notices because it does not reflect much light. I call Bullsh^t! ISS is only 250 miles away and rotates around the Earth every 90 minutes. If you are looking at the sky, Marc's new GIANT space station would pass in the same orbit 45 min after ISS. Even if it absorbed NO light, it would still block out the stars it passes. Finally, they are manufacturing it in space using plasma arcs, which would put out a ton of light.

"Daddy, what is that bright light that is moving through the Lepus constellation? "

"Don't worry dear, It is probably just a superheated asteroid approaching Earth. I am sure NASA is on it."

I can give you an alien space ship, a super helpful AI, and mind-blowing new tech. I am a bit irritated that everything they build works essentially the first time. That never works on my projects. However, I do not believe people successfully hiding giant space stations in near-Earth orbit.

It is still a nice book and an enjoyable read.

I've read many many books dealing with advanced technology and this is the first book that actually booked me and made me want to keep reading.

The author made the characters warm and inviting.

WOW what can I say about this book and series. I am reminded of the Honor Harrington book series and many other great Sci Fi space operas of the previous century. This series really captivates you with its characters and distinctly refreshing way the heroes deal with the problems they face.
