I ordered this book after seeing Ford vs. Ferrari. As it turns out, that script is based on less than 10% of this story. Shelby’s unstoppable vision and drive could be inspirational to any entrepreneur. He took on the world of racing and won.
An excellent book about the early years of Carrol Shelby up through 1967. It is not a complete autobiography of his life, but repackaged to take advantage of the 2019 movie "Ford vs Ferrari." From start to finish I couldn't put it down and would love to have a Shelby car just to have his name on my vehicle. Everyone that knew him loved him except the competition and Carrol Shelby throughout gives all his credit to those around him, and those that worked for/with him. I only wish I could have met him in real life. A true American icon and racing legend. This is not your typical autobiography, but more like sitting and conversing with the man himself. God bless him, and may be rest in peace knowing his legacy lives on. A great addition to any car enthusiasts library.
I wanted to buy "The Cobra Story" which isn't available on Kindle. This book appears to cover everything that could be in "The Cobra Story", as it's in Shelby's own words. The last chapters are the first person words of a person who knew Shelby.
The like the book. Carroll Shelby had many accomplishments, and I am one of his fans. He was also described by others, who liked him, as never being too hampered by the truth. Expect insight and entertainment and do not be surprised that the product he sells best is himself. He acknowledges imperfections without being as harsh about others as I had expected. I enjoyed this and the Lee Iacocca, Richard Petty, Dick Landy, Ramchargers, Don Garlits, and other motor sports legends' stories, biographies, and autobiographies.
It is a great story! I have always admired Mr. Shelby. He certainly achieved his goal of making a unique affordable sportscar that still lives today in the Mustang. My only complaint was the bad editing job.
