3.0 out of 5 starsDeferred Resolution

On one hand, these books are very well written. They have great plotting and design. The scenes are decently rendered, the cast of characters well managed, the drama well staged. The violence and gore is huge. Way beyond the fiercest action movies. The romance, on the other hand, makes Disney movies seem racy in comparison. But the biggest problem to me is the continuing lack of resolution. I've just completed book 7 and yes I'm going to keep reading. I've already bought the remaining 2 books. But in 7 books, nothing has been resolved. The body count has been enormous, but all the majors are still standing and the love story hasnt progressed past the hugging stage. The writing is just one well-described battle after another, continually growing in size and scope, intensity and duration and collateral damage. Heroes are exposed as traitors, secrets are gradually revealed, the plot progresses but nothing conclusive has happened yet -- nothing -- in SEVEN books. Very frustrating, but sadder yet is that despite all this, I'm hooked. But I know that a year from now, I won't remember this book at all. I will forever remember Count Vronski dancing with Anna Karenina, but I won't long remember when the hero here gave Little Miss whosewhatsits a peck on the forehead or how he expanded his mana something to release his 3rd level whatever to unleash his big huge spell on that big bad guy/demon whatever his name was.
