Somebody to Love is the first book in the Tyler Jamison series. It is also a spinoff from another MF series, but I havenโ€™t read that series and honestly, donโ€™t think I need to. Everything is explained very well in this book and I felt like I wasnโ€™t missing anything. There are possible triggers in this book, so I suggest potential readers read the warnings.

I found this book to be entertaining and interesting. The characters are really the star of the show set against a backdrop of a murder mystery. The mystery really just felt like a way to put some of the characters in danger and to give them the push they needed to get together. Once I realized the book wasnโ€™t so much focused on the murder as it was on the romance and character development, I started to really enjoy it. If you go into this book expecting an intricate mystery and police procedural, youโ€™ll be disappointed. I liked the emotional development and Iโ€™m excited the series follows the same couple, Tyler and Ian, throughout the books. I think this will make for really great character development and relationship growth.

The audiobook was a dual narration and was masterfully done. I loved listening to it and enjoyed every moment of it.

2.0 out of 5 starsNot good.

I did not mesh with this book. At all. In fact, I can't find anything I liked. Ian was pushy. Tyler was frustrating with his internalised homophobia. There was so much unnecessary angst and drama. It often read like both characters were in high school. And the serial killer mystery was over super quickly. It was then just awkward sex and realising none of these characters have chemistry. The police procedure was non-existent. All up, this entire book was one frustration after another. Unfortunately, on the audio, there are two narrators who did a good job. I'm hoping I can separate them from this book so I can enjoy their future work. Can't recommend this.

Cute and relatable love story...age gap is showing in the behavior of the characters... one almost old fashioned and the other one is kind of a spoiled teenager... didn't give me all the feels...but ....but ....at the end, they mash well. Low angst... looking forward to the rest of their story๐Ÿ™ƒ

This was amazingly cute! The story flows easily and there isnโ€™t any major drama. Although if felt like I was waiting for the other pun or shoe to drop. Cute though

4.0 out of 5 stars Mystery mixed with some sweet romance!

This was my first book by the author and after finishing this book, I'm gonna be coming back for more! I loved the mystery mixed in with the romance of Tyler and Ian along with the sweetness of the feel of the book. It was perfect! Tyler is a detective for the police force and called to figure out a case. This brings him to Ian. Ian, I loved as well. He was a rich kid who got whatever he wanted, the life of the party in clubs but in reality he was a broken kid with a hard past. Him and Ian hit it off immediately but Tyler wasn't ready to open himself up quite yet. He had to come to terms with his sexuality and how others would feel about it. Solving the case kept Tyler busy but Ian was always on his mind. These two had a real relationship with trust. They opened each other up and relied on moving past the hurt. I love how sweet Ian was during the their first sex scene. He knew what he wanted but didn't push Tyler to do anything he wasn't comfortable with. It was baby steps but then they worked their way up. They were really the best couple! I mean Tyler protected Ian when it was needed and didn't worry that much about the aftermath. They were just happy with each other and that's all that mattered in the end! I'm definitely reading more from this author in the future!

Wow. Poor Tyler! To think he couldnโ€™t be happy and open up to those around him who loved him and find someone to have a connection with us sad. Sam and coopers book is still one of my fave MM books. Loved that he went to Beth and had a heart to heart. And that they all welcomed him with open arms. Haha how Sam and cooper were when he told them was hilarious. And then Shane!! When Tyler brought Ian to the party. Iโ€™m so glad they are close now. Ian is adorable and hot and vulnerable all at the same time. Iโ€™m glad they found one another. They balance each other out. I am pissed about the Brad thing and Iโ€™m surprised as a cop Tyler didnโ€™t recommend that Ian press charges as soon as it happens to head off an issue thatโ€™s obviously coming. Iโ€™m just a surprised by brads behavior Especially since Tyler essentially helped Brad out by clearing him and finding the truth. but maybe Ian has more than one obsessed person after him.

Thats how many days it took me to read Somebody to Love.
At first, I was a bit nervous, because I was so excited for the release of โ€œsomebody to loveโ€. I was worried i overhyped myself and I was going to be disappointed. Well, I was WRONG. Somebody to love is an amazing read. Like all the other McIntyre Security books, Somebody to Love is a 5 star and worth every penny, if not more. Somebody to love came out on my birthday, and i was looking forward to this release more than my own birthday! And it was so good.
I am very picky when it comes to characters in the stories i read, and i read, and listen to, A LOT of books. I hate reading books where i dont root for the mcs. But i also dont want the characters to be perfect. They have to be good people that i wish were real, but they also need flaws. Tyler has been one of my favorite characters, even when he wasnt the most likable guy. I wanted to learn more about him. Even if i thought he should be punched out by Shane, i wanted to see more. I wanted to see him happy. And Ian is PERFECT for him. They are both interesting but not the same. They even each other out. IRL, i believe people who are good together arent the same type of person. Imo, a type A personality wont work with another type A personality. And Ian and Tyler are definitely not the same type of person. I love it. I love them. I wish they were real people. And thats when you know the book is good!

4.0 out of 5 stars Talk About Misplaced Ying & Yang

I am conflicted about this one because the MCs, deeply closeted and self-hating detective Tyler Jamison (I think that's him on the cover) and the much younger free-spirited and lascivious party boy Ian Alexander, are worlds apart in attitudes, experience and expectations of the future.

Throw in the fact that the first part is a ripping good mystery involving three brutal murders of gay men with Ian suddenly targeted as the fourth victim and you might overlook the fact that Ian is all over Tyler while Tyler is completely overcome with conflicts about everything--professional responsibility and sexual identity right up front among them.

That the plot then spun into a series of maybe-maybe-not encounters between them which are unsatisfying until one explosive, out of the blue, episode half way through the book is a conundrum I never quite got into my head as viable. I am left with a 3 1/2 star rating and a question as to whether I want to read the sequel.

These three books should be read in order. The plot continues in each. Excellent writing. Good character development throughout. Easy to read about different situations and plot twists.

A closeted police detective and a trust fund young gay man are thrown together when Ian's life is in danger. Boundaries blur, an undeniable intense attraction sparks and what follows is a well-written mystery. Tyler and Ian are great characters and the story is tense, hot, sweet and completely captivating. Tyler and Ian get their HFN but even without the next book in the series, it felt right and complete. I loved it and can't wait to read what comes next. Highly recommend.
